Altitude sucks, at least when it's above sea level
So, this past weekend, I go out with the magnum (no I didn't break it) and I have 2 perfect flights. Second flight I didn't get the engine shut down quick enough and broke my last 9x7 prop, no big deal, I was wanting to change to the 8x8 anyway. Well, I was only getting about 15,500 on the 9x7 which seemed weird to me, but whatever, the airplane flew good. I put the 8x8 on (stock header length still) and got 18,900. I figured GREAT!!!!!
I'm at 2900ft above sea level. The flight was awesome, but man did the launch ever SUCK!!!!!! It was given a good hard toss, and came within inches of the ground, it seemed to take forever to get that prop to bite the air.
I'm hoping to hit around 20,500 or 21,000 when I shorten the pipe, hopefully that will help, but I'm a little concerned because I have my whiplash ready to go with a West .50 on it with the 8x8 as well, and it's heavier than the magnum, however it also has alot more area than a magnum (and more of an actual airfoil hehehe)
Anyone think I'll have issues with the Whip? The magnum isn't as huge of a concern as it's $300 with engine and pipe, but the whip's are fairly pricy for what they are, not that I'm so concerned about destroying an all kevlar plane on launch, but I'm tired of breaking props LOL!!!!!

I'm at 3250' ASL here and launch the Whip without any trouble.
This pic was taken when the temp was over 100F, no telling what the density altitude was that day!

I'm not sure but I think I did read some where that the launch was a little low with the 8/8 on the magnum but when she unloads watch out.

...but then again, you should reach higher speeds because there's just less air to "push aside".... or does the decrease in engine performance compensate for that... I don't know cause I fly at about 300 ft ASL...
