What happened to all the guys with the Patriots? You have been awfully quiet lately. I have been following the threads as I have been building my Patriot. It is just about ready to go, but I am missing all the comments.

Ok- My Patriot is still together.... Even with a Jett-50 and standard servos (6 volt tho-)

Love it more every flight- I have split flaps and when I do a slow flyby people freak out cuz' it looks like it is gonna fall out of the sky!

What motor you gonna run?

I am going to start with a GMS .47 for the shakedown and until I get used to it. If it does not perform well, I'll probably put a Jett in it.

Default Well-

I dunno what you would consider "perfoming well" but the Jett-50 is an awesome piece of machinery-

Hi Patriot fellows !

"What happened to all the guys with the Patriots?"

Well I've made the nosewheel steerable by fishingwires runnig over small nylon wheels connected to a servoarm bolted in fuse 2" behind F2, arm connected back to rudderservo with servo override springcoupling.
Had to make a spring out of musicwire to take care of the slack when retracted
Before, the nosewhell was just swiveling but it didn't taxi well on our grassfield by rudder alone . Now perfect!! the labour was well worth it.

I have also extended exh timing on the Rossi .53 from 155 deg to 160 by Dremeling 0,5 mm over the entire portwidht whitch gave +500 rpm overall with different props, then I Dremeld another 0.5mm but only half widht of port that gave another 400 on 9" props but -300 on 10" this with a full pipe from Weston UK that I first released from it's mufflerchamber that i thought was unnecessary wheight, it was way too quiet also.....but, now it was too loudy eaven for my taste so I had to solder it back (after have enlarged the wholes in the baffle of cource !)
Fuel is 18% Aerosynth ,5% nitro.

Tested props in flight and good was APC 9.5*8 pylon but the current pipelength seemed to be perfectly set for MA 10*7: 17,400 on ground ,and after take of and when getting in to the first slight dive the pipe came really alive and stayed there and then it was screaming around in the air to me and clubfellows highest amusement.

God ! what a plane! rock steady in flight it, sure goes where sticks tells it. The 10" MA gives loopings so huge that the sun reflecting in the monocote chrome and the thin smoketrail was a good help seeing it on top.
High speed passes :
The high nose landings are very nice too!!
But I will have to mix aileron to rudder as it has roll tendecies in knifeedge, do you Patrioters have the same exp. ?
What I want is higspeed 4-point hesitation roll flyby.

Yesterday our club had the annual big show with pilots from neighbour clubs and the numerous spectators responce to my displays was as Great Planes stated in a catalog: The "oohs" and "aahs" are free.

I dusted off my patriot after letting it hang in the garage for two years and flew it yesterday. I've been working Turbine projects for so long, the darn thing had dust on it several mils thick. Anyway, on saturday I decided to install a spring air retract on the nose. Steering was always an issue with the darn mechanical retract. Anyway, Fired up the YS 45 and on second try it kicked off!! First flight we were doing about 150 MPH and I was having a ball. On landing, my nose gear mount plate seperated. I dremeled out the nose are to get a good look, too the retract out, five minuted the hell out of it, and flew it a couple more times!! This is one awesome airplane!! I think it's faster than my turbine kangaroo!!

Does anyone have some detailed pics of their nose gear installation that is beefed up and how did you do it? I'm thinking I want to go to 3/16" strut there and all the way around. After flying 1/2" struts for so long, the little 5/32" I'm bending the crap out of them.

YES, I HAVE THREE PATRIOTS!!

Default My "new" Patriot

Hi......here is the Patriot that I just finished rebuilding. Traded a friend for it a couple of months ago and this is the 4th or 5th time it has been changed. Started out with a .46 and fixed gear, then 46 w/ pipe, then retracts, then .61 with pipe, and now what I've done.

I mounted a Morris .53 Powerhouse w/ Jett-Stream and Scimitar 10x7 prop. Retracts are B&D pneumatic and spinner is DC jet-style 2.25. All up weight is 6.8 lbs, so it is kinda on the heavy side. All the mods and crash repairs begin to add up after a while. I had to add 3oz to the tail and mount the battery at the very end to get the balance right. Hopefully the .53 will pull it along halfway respectable!

Should fly on Sunday!

I managed to squeeze a Dubro 12 ozer through F2. Should provide plenty of flight time!

Default Stunning!

Good choice with the Rossi-53

Does sound kinda heavy but the 53 is a workhorse-

Great color scheme!

Flew the Patriot yesterday and all is well. Despite the weight, it got off the ground in a hurry and had good vertical. On the last flight the muffler came off. The engine kept running good though and we were able to bring it back in. Gonna have to check that one more often I guess. Good thing all the fields had been plowed!

All in all, I really like it and now understand that all the hype about the Patriot is true. Thanks for the compliment Razor.

Razor......yes, found the muffler. I would have spent all day in the 100+ heat to find it if I had to ($70 Jett-Stream).

real crash.......Tower lists the Patriot as being in stock again in mid-September. You can backorder it with them now if you want one.

Mines is just sitting in my garage since May. Since its hot out there in the field and I got hooked on slope soaring, I dont see mines flying in a while until I visit Las Vegas for Spring.

Any specific building tips for the Patriot?

I am building my first Patriot, (not my first kit), and love to make any custom modifications for better flying, landing, take off etc...

so any suggestions are appreciated!

What about flaps, is it really worth it,

I read someone with split flaps.

well maybe it is just me......

my patriot built so far is not too smooth sailing...

wood was heavy...so replaced some of them...fuselage...vertical and horizontal surfaces....

and though plans shrink or contract...but it seems that my LE does not match up with those on the plan...no big deal...but when is GP going to go LASER?

well still ploughing on....wings to build...fuselage to build...seems still got plenty on hand....will update as i go along.... =)

(looking forward to the return of the F4...how it will be of better quality)

Razor,

Do you have any pics of the split flap function, if I am not too far along I would like to put the split flaps in, but if I have to I will go with regular flaps.

I am also interested in learning the build and operation of split flaps as I am going to be putting split flaps in my b-17

any help is appreciated.
