Default Sig Kougar and SJ .60 LX

I have been flying a SJ .50's in various models, i.e. Phoenix Models Strega and F-20. These are great combinations and fly reasonable quick with the SJ .50. I flew Sig Kougars years ago, as I remember with K & B .61's. I'd love to have another Kougar and am considering putting one together this winter. I know the Kougar isn't an all out speed plane with it's thick wing, etc, but my aim isn't to go ballistic! However, does anyone know how the Kougar would fly with either the SJ .50 or better yet, the SJ .60 LX. Is the Kougar strong enough for these engines? Mods? Has anyone tried these combinations? What do you think the top speed would be with the 'LX'. I'm guessing 110 to 120 on the level....? Would appreciate any ideas on the above. I might consider doing a build thread on this project if there is enough interest.....JT

yes the couger would do well and your right about the speed right around 110-115 might be able to eek out 125 with race wheels on the mains and small nose wheel. keep everything clean. some have flown that at our field with a moded 55 AX on jett pipe. 11x7 @14,000 and goes just as fast straight up as does level. it hits a wall around 120 and needs big power to go faster with wheels hanging down.

Yes the air frame will handle it.

Does anyone know how it'll fly with a jett engine in the nose..?

Yes, I do.

It'll sound ten times faster than it really is.

I would try to fit some retracts in it. That should clean it up a bunch.
Good luck, sounds like a good project.

try spring air retracts, light and they work, I have used them in the past.

or you could make it a tail dragger.

Or both: retracts on the mains and a tail dragger.

Exactly what I did on my latest King Kobra build. Easiest kit to modify.

I experienced the same thing with a Jett .46. The poor little Kougar just couldn't go any faster no matter what. But it sounded fast.
