Sundowner 36 + Sport JETT .50 or.60LX FIRE
I found a great deal on a Sundowner 36 and bought it.
H9 seems to make a good ARF compared to those really cheap ebarf stuff.
POWER....
Now I have a Sport JETT .50 and a JETT .60 LX FIRE
It is still in the box I am guessing that one of the JETTs will fit. (might need a shoehorn)
Have to projects on the bench to finish up first.

If I were to do the same thing, I would open up the wings and beef them up and then when putting it together I would epoxy the wings onto the tube and fuse. I have read more then once about the wings folding on high G turns. Not a bash at H9, the airplane is just not designed for that kind of abuse.

Hello Crazy and Speed,
I too am looking at an H-9's Sundowner 36, and I have a Jett 40. I just have not found out to much on the Sundowner. Any Information on it would be great. Thanks Glen

can you get the muffler installed on there?

The wings are thin but the nose will make the most drag.
I may have to make an exaust extention for the muffler... that means rpm loss.
Also I could look at the 60LX and run the pipe out the bottom.

ABUSE ?!? ME ?!? No, Not Me !
Folded wing on Lanier Shike .10 with .25FP modified with .40FP carb...did not upgrade 1/4 balsa spars with spruce
I once folded the wings on a Hobbico Superstar Trainer with an OS 46.
Flew 24.5 of 28 cub scouts on the budddy box that day.
The wing folded because: the spare/joiner was suppied "lite" plywood and delamination of plywood ribs (epoxie held)

Lite 3 ply is total crap for wing joiners. Spend the extra pennies and get 5 ply or even better carve one out of aluminum billet. Then epoxy it in.

Penco doesnt matter how strong the joiner is if what the joiner goes into cant hold. lite ply is plenty strong if used correctly. Fly the plane as designed and no problems. but to turn hard and fly faster and with more weight than designed then need to fix the whole problem with the wings.

Afterr my failure on a trainer noless I will use SiG aircraft ply for all of my future woing joiners
the trainer had 2 pcs of 3mm "plywood" to be glued together and then installed into the wing. once I thought it was good enough.
20 and counting ?? !!!! shows that most ARF makers have cut COSTS by cutting QUALITY [:@]
even Fei Bao a jet maker did a crap job on servo mounting brackets I had to remake them at work! [&:]

Guys, this airplane has plug in wings. The wing joiner so to speak is an aluminum tube. The issue with the Sundowner and high G turns is the wing failing just past the wing tube. This is where most of the flight loads are going to be concentrated. We refer to this as a stress riser. What needs to be done is the addition of some material to spread that load over a larger area. When I do plug in wings I add some unidirectional CF to the wing sheeting about another 1/4 span past the wing tube. This is enough to spread the load and preventing failure. Having not ever seeing the inside of the Sundowner wing, I don't know exactly how to go about this.

is the joiner really the problem?

Seriously....
The die cut 2 layer wing joiner was made out of the same "LITE PLYWOOD" as the fuselage sides!
I have not run a test to see at what load the supplied spar material will fail vs. a spar made from SIG 7 layer 1/4" plywood.
My guess would put the SIG to hold 2.5 times the load.

+15 g's is not a very big load.
Say that the airplane can fly 140 mph (not really very fast, but somewhat typical). As soon as the radius of the turn is 87 feet, you have added 15 g's to the wing loading, ignoring the contribution of normal gravity.

yeah! with sportjett50.on the flight the engine can't start, the jet stream muffler seems like
a aluminum tube play apart!
