It looks like the Bushnell.
Have you used one?

I think it is a bushnell but for about $76, and 199 mph is fast enough for me, at least for what I need it for. I have not used it yet.

If you ever tried using a Bushnell for models, you might do a rethink

Yeah, the guy working the gun has to be way too close to get a decent reading. I know when I first started messing with them it was very unnerving at just the 100mph area.

It can be mounted to a tripod and has an advertized range up to 1000ft.

It says it is a Sports Radar Ltd. speed gun. That company is in florida. It say it can measuer baseballs up to 60ft away and cars up to 1000ft. I have not tested it yet.

The detected speed might get flawed due to vibrations on the aircraft, because it gets a speed reading on a tuning fork and sometimes on my computer speakers.

I tested 26mph on a eflite mini stick from 20-40ft away. It was probably going 30mph because of my angle.

Get someone to do a 100+ pass and see how it does.

I'm trying, I'm working on a .60 racer that should do 140+. The problem is measuring directly in front or behind something going that fast.

The bigger problem is how close you need to be to get a reading with the cheaper guns.
You could mount it on a tripod and still miss it from 15' away 8 times out of 10 at those speeds.

If finding out how fast a 40 mph plane interests you, this is the gun. However after you get near the 100 mph range your options slim down to a more expensive gun for safety reasons foremost. Accuracy is a whole nother discussion.

We use a Stalker Pro with very good success. We have had two of them get the same reading and paired it with a How Fast unit, all pretty much the same give or take 1mph.

It claims to get a baseball up to 60ft and a car up to 1000ft, and I'll be aiming for a football sized target. I think if the plane passes over someone, they can aim it up to catch it as it is headed away.

It recently caught a 60" plane going 45mph from over 20ft away(I can't remember how far), so it must have been going 50+. I'll try the tripod mount method next. I attempted to test its spread angle, but I soon realized it could pick me up from many places in the romm because the sound waves bounce around the walls. I'll try to get a good fast test from the runway soon, but I'll have to try to borrow someone's plane as I'm the best pilot at my club and all my big things are being worked on.

I also got a 30" warbird going 65, it has a fat body, so it wasn't too hard to get. I had a pro pylon racer fly straight at it and got 85mph on one of his slower planes, and I flew a slow stick @ 35 when it was on the tripod. The range seems to reach roughly more than 50ft, and you have to keep the plane straight in one direction long enogh to get a reading. I'm soon upgrading my stryker, and hope to get a 100+mph flyby.

You can clock 100 to 150 mph planes pretty accurately with just a pair of helpers with cell phones and a stop watch. Base the timing zone on a length that takes at least 2 seconds for the plane to complete. I like to use 1/8th mile, this makes the time interval for 100-150 mph planes in the range of 3 to 4 seconds to go 660 feet. Have your timers situated with an object in the foreground that they can "sight in on" to a landmark in the background. Let the timer at the finish line work the stop watch. The helper's job at the starting line is just to give the time keeper the word when the plane passes his "sight line".
I've done dozens of clockings this way and the results are amazingly consistent. The results also are in close agreement with the "HowFast?" onboard speed sensor.
We do it with hatchback cars parked at either end of the timing zone and have the timers use the edge of the lifted hatch as the visual objective in the foreground. The cars give the timers protection just in case.
I've never splurged on a radar detector, there are too many other ways to measure speed without spending so much money.
I can see why you would need a good gun for a speed rally [for it's convenience and safety], but hopefully something like a good gun could be bought by the local club.
