2014 Carolina Speed Rally
Things have been quiet for a little while but we are indeed hosting a rally this year. Albeit a little lower key affair than in the past but there will be a gathering of Speed Freaks at the Hunting Creek Rc field at 3880 Hunting Creek Rd, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659 on Saturday September 20.

Hi Vic, you asked me Saturday for the weight of my foam pylon racer and it weighs 19oz AUW. Also it used a 1300mAh 3 cell, I forgot to include the cell count on the information sheet.

This year's Rally was a little lower key than previous years but still a fun day.
The weather was perfect the Hunting Creek RC guys put on a great lunch and were super hosts. They will be adding another 100' of concrete for next year. Who knows maybe we will see some turbines next year.
This was the first year we had a motor glider guy give it a go.
We also had some new pilots bring some cool stuff.
SickWayne showed up with his little homemade job that was a blast to watch.
Thanks to all who came out and helped.

The pictures are a strange thing. When I open the file in my drive they are rotated correctly and when I open the link here they are rotated till I right click and hit view. Then they rotate correct automatically.
The weather was unbelievable! We usually have the rally in late June and it is hotter than a bear's armpit so yesterday was pure joy to fly in.

Just noticed I hadn't posted the sheet.
You guys may notice the speeds were down a little but we still had a great time.
The list will also on our website http://caldwellaeromodelers.com/speedrally.asp soon.
I'll add some vids that were taken when they are forwarded to me.
Notice the speeds put up by sickwayne's foam job. He impressed me with that plane. He also got quite a bit smoother with his runs thru out the day.

Yet another data point that the Magnum is a 160-165 aircraft unless you throw unreasonable amounts of power at it. No problem with that, it just ain't what the mfg claims - but we already know that.

Sure did - I like that! Next step is rear exhaust and extend the canopy forward into a semblance of a speed cowl. Or, build a different model by that point. But, it would be easy to do.

A guy who used to post here was in the 190's with a Nelson Q40 powered Magnum.
He didn't seem to want to put much effort into it. He made a sheet plastic fairing to hide some of the engine and that's about it.
200 was his goal, but he didn't invest the time to explore all the angles to get there.
