I'm definitely not in a hurry.
I can live with a short kit, but would prefer a more complete pile of wood, since the plane is designed for imperial sized wood and thus I would have to special order a bunch of imperial sized wood to finish a short kit properly. Sanding down a trailing edge stock to fit is one thing, but sanding down a bunch of sheeting is another matter

The sheeting is actually the least of my worries, but I'd hate messing up a set of perfectly laser cut formers with loose fitting spars and what not.
Like I said, I can work around it, and it really isn't a big deal. But a full kit is just easier.

All you really need from the kit is the spars and formers and you good to go, if sheathing is no problem for you to get.
If your going for "real speed" go with a single fin rather than the dual fins or wingletts on this one.

This was earlier, I am cutting sets of ribs 1&2 now. Rib 1 is about 21.5" long and my X limit is 20".. so I cut them separately on the diagonal.

I was so eager to start cutting, I had everything all set but the last detail - deck height. I had only eyeballed it, so the head was about .150" too far, with only a short focal length (1.5") lens. That's why it is cutting fat there, but the parts one that sheet are off by all of maybe 3 thou.. oh no!
I have all ribs 1,2,3 cut so far, two sheets of rib 4, the tip rib now. One almost done. I smell like a sugar shack from hovering around the filter exhaust all afternoon. (no worries, big HEPA filter and activated carbon organic vapour filter. Just a sweet burny smell.) Ah, done. 16 tip ribs, 5:54.

Got all the short kit ribs cut yesterday, just cut the 1/16" ply bulkheads, next... the Motor Plates.
Guys, this is easy to do for this handful of 5 people/8 short kits, I'd be happy to cut the motor mounts to fit the engine. I saw some of these will get Jetts, so those are the rather common OS .46 beam mount pattern. I have a SJ .50 and an OS .46 on the table in front of me with the caliper to double check. Now.. .32SX mounting, that is easy to find on the OS site. Anyone mounting a big block - you'll be improvising a bit, I can include a couple of spare ply center ribs, motor plates, and CF spar material. I will PM y'all shortly on this, we can swap info there.

I am not sure about what engine if you are selling me one. I have 2 Novarossi's , an R528F and an R50F that I would like to try. Since I am not familiar with the plane I might need a recommendation on which one.

Definitely the R50F, perfect engine for it. I'll bet an APC 9-8 is close to the best prop for the combo. Stubby 8oz tank if you can. If that engine lives up to the name, you should have yourself a brisk machine.
The T528F would be ideal on a smaller airframe, it will need a prop like the Graupner 6.5x6.5 or something in that range to get up where it sings. I'm working on a 26" span Demon.. that would be perfect.. prototype did 161 mph on an OS .25 VF-DF & 6-6.

Yeah I think the R50F is more of a sport engine but it seems to run good. Have not found much info on any of the Novarossis. I think I need a shorter pipe for it. I don't remember what I was getting 15k or 16k with a 10x6 and a long muffled tuned pipe. I didn't get much time to mess with it last year before winter arrived. I would like to get the R46F pylon engine but it is a little out of my budget right now. But I think a 9x8 does sound like a good prop for it.
The R28F I was getting over 18,000 with an 8x6, but I only ran it once and have not tested the 6.5x6 or 6.5x6.5 I have.

18k on the 8x6 is getting there, for reference I have seen 18.2 on the same prop from a piped GMS .32. I think you're on the low side of that engine's timing based on the specs, will be interesting to see how it responds on the smaller props.

Yeah I have only ran maybe 5 oz of fuel through it. I have a Gms 32 and have never tried a smaller prop on it. I usually run a 10x5 or 11x4. The R528f kinda worries me. I have only ran it the one time but the vibration seem to be a lot between like 12k and 15k rpms. I re balanced the prop and it didn't help much. It might have been my test stand or something. I will find out when spring gets here. I think I will be happy with the power it has when I get comfortable with it.

I think the R528F is just telling you that it doesn't want to be propped for those low rpm. With peak power at 32.8k rpm, the engine is obviously timed for high teens and up and I would think loading it down would produce mediocre performance results and some temperamental habits. It might run smooth but you're kinda chugging the sports car down the boulevard.

Progress report for this evening: cut all new motor mount plates and doublers. This is the OS46 bolt pattern set.. Perfect fit, I found some old engine that had the same bolt pattern to test, check it out:
Get this.. the entire center assembly, with the spar stubs (3g each) is 85 grams. That's everything in the last pics except the hardware of course, with the whole thing generously CA'ed together. All plywood.
So I weighed a Hayes AS-40 engine mount to compare - 51g! I like it.
Next on the list.. OS .32, and I'll see if the NovaRossi site has the mounting info. If not.. I could use that.

This is my best measurements for the Nova Rossi's I have: 09.20/C1 .21 and the R528F are 21mm front to back and 38mm side to side. They don't appear to be 1/2 mm.
The R50F I got 21mm front to back and 45mm side to side.
I just happen to have an ASP .32 out and I am not sure if the measurements are readily available but i got 15mm and 38mm for it.

I cut four sets of OS32 bolt pattern mounts last night, and set the prop driver 0.1" ahead of the nose ring. Bonified WN - the ASP should fit this bolt pattern, see below.
Running a big block requires a bit of improvisation, I don't have a CAD designed mounting scheme yet. In truth it is best to wait for a modified version for this format engine - a bit more wing, tank on CG etc. I have been sketching ideas, they will come.
This is handy info below - and the OS site has bolt patterns as well. At the Novarossi site, you can download corporate logos in various formats, and buy hats and T-shirts, but you can't get &#^%#$@ dimensional specs for the engines, only very badly translated instructions.
Here are the OS46 and OS32 bolt patterns btw. For other engine mounts I need:
A,B,C and E. I need E to locate the engine fore-aft.
Editing and cutting the plates is easy for these onesie twosies right now. For future, I will mount plate sets separate from the other parts so they can be a la carte.
