So somebody is sending pictures of airplane porn but not posting them here for all to drool over?

For shame!

That is pretty cool, but it sure looks like a rear intake engine to me.

I'm pretty sure I'll go with a single fin. Shaped right, it will double as a launching handle.

May be, I really was just pointing to a Demon with a K&B metric. I did a custom mount for the K&B FIRE for one of the guys.

If that is the case fill in the gap that is normally between the elevons so you can shift the fin rearward the 1-7/8 inch or so to put it even further behind the COG. That way you can shrink it down a bit from the 42-43 square inches of area that the dual fins or winglets have.

IE - I've sketched up a few single fins ideas over time. One direction of course is lots of rudder and some subfin for aerobatic gyrations. The other is the cleanliness of a single center solid fin of required area only.

With a delta if your going to use a rudder I would do a setup similar to a Yak where the longest cord is down low. Just a note of something I have seen, for some reason a sweptback rudder doesn't work well with a delta so if you do add a rudder keep the hinge line vertical. With just a fin something like CP did with his BOH would be cool.

Here's another tease.I picked up a couple of HS225's on the way home today along with a tank, throttle cable and the 1/64 ply for the elevons. Now I can finish the top sheeting. If the weather is decent tomorrow, I may finally get the maiden in on my giant FW190. The following weekend for the Demon looks feasible. I'm now thinking tip fins because they're easy. I just hope they aren't too fragile on landing.

Yup, it's a .32SX. It started life as the heli version. I discovered this engine too late to buy any from a dealer, so I trolled FeeBay for them and finally quit buying them when I had five. So far, that's been enough. I still have two just sitting, so I have some more building to do.

I think I would have been better off staying home and working on the Demon this weekend. Saturday was a total bust and the FW190 pissed me off so thoroughly I about stomped it into the ground. And that was without even flying it. Today, after some mods that the factory should have done in the beginning, it flew very nicely. I even got it down OK even though it was so tail-heavy I used ALL of my down elevator trim to keep it from climbing. Knowing it was foolish to fly the 190 again without more noseweight, I decide to fly my Corsair. I really liked it because it flew well and was stupid-fast. It was the TopFlite .60-size with a DLE 20cc gas engine. All was fine until I pulled just a bit too hard, too fast. The outer right wing panel punched out and the rest slammed in at triple digits. Here are the before and after pics. The mud-encased mass in front of the wreck is the engine. We didn't find the outer wing or the retract that was in it. Good riddance to the retracts. Those damned Robarts were crap anyway. My Sierra retracts have spoiled me rotten. Fearsomely expensive, but utterly reliable and bullet-proof. Now to decide on a replacement for the Corsair that won't require Robarts. I've included a pic of the Sierras on the 190 for those that have never seen them. Functional works of art. The tires/wheels on the 190 are also made by Sierra.

That's a gorgeous 190..!
Too bad you didn't have the Demon finished or you could have salvaged the weekend.
It was still better than my weekend as an amateur farm hand.

I knew I could count on you for sympathy. At least the "crime scene" was small. Kinda glad it went straight in for just that reason. The ground was REALLY soft. Hopefully the engine is OK, but I don't have much hope for the ignition module. The prop nut was easily 18 in. below ground level. I couldn't see any of the engine, I just pulled it out by the throttle linkage. I haven't taken a good look at any of the components yet, so I still don't know the full extent of the carnage. It's been awhile since I've stuffed one so thoroughly. I got so pissed at the 190 the day before, I guess I just didn't have it in me to get upset about the Corsair. At least it was an ARF. I don't mourn ARF's.
