Default My Whiplash prior to first flight-

Wow- I guess that RCU has fixed a glitch or two I can now start a thread- and/or post a pic!

This is really an amateur set-up compared to most of you folks for a Whip but I fly what I got Maiden flight last weekend was aborted due to gala force winds.... I also threw my MACS pipe on here after some people were laughing at my stock muffler-

Anyhow:

YS-45 MACS 7.5CC pipe
10x7 APC to start, 9x8 afterwards?
Hitec-645MG's on Elevons, 148 Throttle-
Shaker can paint job-

Well, have a good one all y'all!

Yo, Razor....

....whack about 3" off the header pipe, can the APC....and put a 9 1/2-6,
or a 9-7 MAS on it....and put a balanced metal spinner on that Dude....

....that is of course, if you expect that baby to come on the pipe....

Dave.

Razor,
Don't hack off 3"!!!! That will be too much[X(] especially with the best starting point (9X8 APC) Remove about 3/8" at a time and test. I suspect by looking at the photo you'll end up removing 1.5 to 2"

It's better to be a little bit too long than any amount too short especially for initial shakedown runs.

Have Fun!!!

With the "full-length" pipe should I start with the 9x8? I just wanted to make sure it had oomph on hand launch for the 1st flight-(10x7 or8)

My tach is a paperweight so I have not cut the pipe... yet- If y'all are sure that it will be 2+ inches I will go ahead and cut it prior to the first flight just to be close- and use a 9x8...

Thanks!

Razor,
I haven't flown a whiplash but since most of the people flying them are using 9" Props I would think that would be OK. A 10" prop would give you more acceleration from the handlaunch but would also have a higher torque & P-factor requiring even more right aileron on the launch. Talk to Chuck!

Start out with 17.5" (Glow Plug to end on converging cone, measured along the centerline) & 9X8 Prop with 15 to 20% Fuel. From that point shorten in small steps (1/4") with testing. You'll be able to tell when to stop. (When it jumps on the pipe at the last 1/8 of throttle or when you have to lean slightly to get it to jump on pipe but then when it does it wants to be richer).

I wouldn't do any pipe shortening until you get comfortable with the airplane! Like I said before being too long will cost you a few RPM's but it will run and carburate just fine. Not so with too short!

Be sure and give us a full report
