Default In-Flight Shrike Launch!

Just thought I'd share...me and my buddy, TJ launched a .15 size Shrike from the top of our .90 size trainer...it was AWESOME!...had 5 successful launches...
I'd sure like to know if somone else out there in R/C land has done or seen the same!?!...
This is my first post so I hope the pics turn out in it...

G R E A T

It could be possible to use this concept to fly airframes unable to take off due to high speed optimization

Magnifico! Something different is always welcome, especially when you have pics!

Could you post a few close up pics of your launch mechanism?[8D]

Thanks to all yall for the kudos...here's some pics of the launch mechanism (which neither I nor TJ can take credit for...we just modified it for our use) and closeups of the Shrike as well...
It was scratch-built from another friend's plans, lightened by using smaller wood thicknesses, it has an OS.15 with the head-shim removed, the mufler baffle ground out, and runs on YS/Saito 20/20 fuel with an APC 7x6 prop...it ain't as fast as some of the forty's sized Shrike at our field but pretty much gives them a run for the money...haha...covered totally in Monokote (only the number '18' on the tail are stick-on's)...I'm a SciFi fan so I made it up to be a type of a lesser armed, 'Flying Bolo'...only those who have read Keith Laumer knows what a 'Bolo' is...sorry to the rest of you...

That sure is an awesome setup!

Maybe you can talk some buddies into videotaping a launch for us all to watch!

To cut down and/or eliminate any aileron looseness...and I wanted the reliability of not loosing my ailerons to the failure of a single servo...they're mounted in the wings because there was no room in the fuse...
we flew it again this morning and had a blast...the cradle still needs some modifications to keep the Shrike from dipping a wing while on the Mothership...

I do not think the cradle is the problem... I think it is the method you use to hold the plane down... the rubber band...

Modified the cradle with a couple of wing-stops to keep the Shrike from slipping forward...tried this out this weekend and worked great...the Shrike stayed nice and level while on the Mothership...
We're gonna try some inverted releases and maybe some vertical releases next...should be awesome!

We have done this type of launching at our field for about 7 years now. Not very ofter though. Nearly all launches were successful. We use an 80" wingspan stick type model to launch 2m gliders. Get waaay up there and let them go. We to had problems with the wings dipping while attached to the mothership, especially w/ 2m gliders. Our solution was to just fly slower and as level as possible. The mothership used flaps to keep airspeed to a minimal. Standoffs at the wing tips would definately do the trick though.

Way cool. You will be 2 times legends if you can rig it that you can fly the shrike around a bit, cut the engine then land it back on the same mothership whilst still in the air....

(Playing devils advocate for a crash perhaps?)

And just 2 questions.... do you run up both planes to full to get the mothership to take off? I assume it has better takeoff than ever before now?

Yea...I've seen and done glider launches...never saw or done a 'glow-powered' aircraft launch from another 'glow-powered' aircraft...
The Mothership is equipped with flaps mixed to the throttle and elevator...

Tj and I are in the 'engineering' stage for a trapeze type docking system...we intend to launch the Shrike from the top...then reattach it to the bottom of the Mothership via the trapeze...release the Shrike from the Mothership...and then land both ships separately...
wish us luck!...
