RE: My Magnum
G'day Joe,
Can't help you with prop selection on the YS but what I can tell you is the Magnum is easy to land. The only thing to keep in mind is she's a slippery airframe and can take a little longer to slow down until your comfortable. I set my C of G at 142mm, I found I had better elevator authority at slow speeds which in turn slowed the landings down.
Good luck with it I'm sure you have a lot of fun.
Cheers
Ken

RE: My Magnum
thanks. [sm=thumbup.gif]
I dont deserve my revver membership! I'm putting an Irvine 40 in my magnum[X(] too scared to put the West 50 that i bought (well for now anyway)
So.....i'm building me a Patriot around the West 50 combo. No u/c blocks (save weight) as i'll be using this trusty steerable dolly method!!

RE: Magnum+.40 what prop?
Hi Dave,
Go with the West and a 9x6 prop and leave the header pipe at its original length.
If you looking for max speed with the Irvine its not gonna be all that much slower.........
Anyway there's a thing on your TX called a throttle........don't wimp out on us now...... and you can keep your number
Ken

RE: Magnum+.40 what prop?
I know, i've been told all about the thing called throttle
But i am going with the irvine 40, due to it costing about £40, instead of £170..........I'd rather trash the mag and a £40 engine than trash a Mag and £170 engine!!
so....your gonna have to answer me other question

RE: Magnum+.40 what prop?
I reckon the Irvine will last no more than a fortnight before the West goes in.........
After a while the West wont be fast enough...........
Seriously, its one of the easiest aeroplanes to fly, just remember not to let it get too far away.

Dave........
Run the irvine on a 9x6. It turns up fairly well, and the plane will move quite nicely, but within both the engines capabilities, and your own capabilitie and desires . You might be able to increase to a 9x7 after a bit too. Irvine performance is similar to the Thunder Tiger engines......... and I know a 9x6 works well on those.
You might still need that throttle though

Dave.........
I have all the confidence in the world in you
My guess is that after about 5 flights, the only reason the throttle will come up in conversation will be something like....
".... the friggin throttle must be stuck only half open........ its not going fast enough....."

RE: Magnum+.40 what prop?
Dave,
You'll notice in my previous pics the rods are bent forwards and covered with polyurethane tube, having it this way saves any damage to the underside of the wing.
The rods are 50mm from the base to the top and 30mm from the base to the start of the bend, the foam pad is 10mm thick so effectively its 40mm high.
I also use these rods to "clamp" the Magnum to the dolly, only enough to counteract the left torque roll effect and to stop the acft from bouncing off.
Hope this helps
Ken
