patriot build question
I started to build the wing last night and noticed that when you set the ribs on top of the spars the ribs are not touching the plan. Since this is my first build I thought the notches in the ribs may need to be deepened so the ribs do touch. It may seem like a stupid question but I wasn't sure?

RE: patriot build question
read instructions a couple of times and plan ahead.
trim ribs so it'll touch the builing surface at the spar.
there a piece of tapper blasa (guage)...don't use that as scrap.lol
put under the ribs to help keep wing straight...
put wieght on ribs to help keep press down on the guage.
use a yard stick and press from behind of TE to help keep
straight also.
.40 patriot.
i didn't follow the instructions in certain area..
cover (film) the rear fins and rear portion of fuselage before
gluing..it'll made sanding and covering the rear deck easier.
i didn't glue the rear battom balsa block...instead i made a hatch.
i'll need to adjust the rear control surface...i just know it.lol
i did the same for the fuel tank area.
i also recessed the firewall 1/4" to allow more room for the engine.
a nose retract would have been easier to deal with..
but i wanted a larger fuel tank...with a hatch i can also
mount the nose gear in that compartment..
i was going a order another .40 patriot and build with retracts..
i looked on tower's site......it's not listed anymore..[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

RE: patriot build question
oh yeah...
mark the ribs .lol
go over the numbers....have them facing in the same directions
so u don't mount some ribs unside down.
look at the pictures to see what direction the numbers should be
facing.
remember to build a right wing and a left...
i built 2 right side on my first build.lol
a straight chord was easier to fix....
mark the fuselage pieces for left and right when gluing
the dubblers...i made 2 rigth sides before too.

RE: patriot build question
Hi LeftNut,
Tower still has the .40 Patriot kits. In fact they seem pretty resonable at $77. I bought mine back in Feb, but have not had a chance to start on it yet....Summer is way to short up here.

Oh, by the way, I was going to try a set of the B&D pneumatic retracts that Tower sells too!

RE: patriot build question
Me and SJ have worked out that my DG is not at the same (correct) angle to the one shown in the manual (yep it takes two of us)
So i'll cut out and use the one from the instructions.
