Diamond Dust undercarriage?
Hi All,
I’m not new to flying, but I am new to models this fast. I’ve an unrun Webra Speed 40 and 28 with pipes for both. I’m thinking the Speed 28 might be a good place to start in a Diamond Dust, but the problem is my club only has a runway (no grass).
Can/has the Diamond Dust been modified to use an undercarriage? I’m open to either wheels or skids.
Thanks
Barry

That's gonna be a tough one. Wheels would probably have to be dural type. Nothing to mount to in the wing structure except CF rod. I think that would seriously reduce the strength. As far as a skid you might try a strip of PVC like on the Shrike. You would also have to put some clear tape on the wing tips.

Hi Barry, I don't see why you can't set some hardwood blocks in the wing tip areas, and then attach 3/32" music wire loops into a couple of tight fitting holes. The nose skid[s] could be music wire attached to the motor mount[s]. I like the idea of closed loops because they aren't bouncy.

Thanks guys.
I'm still looking to hear from the one guy on this planet that has done this.
I've been thinking though...what about attaching the rears to the body of the thing. They make some light weight composite U/C meant for use on tail draggers?
They don't have to long enough to get the prop off the floor (although nice) just long enough to get wheels under the thing.

Our field doesnn't have a grass runway either but there is grass on each end and on one side. All of us Diamond Dust pilots land in the grass.

Hey when I say "we have no grass".....What I really mean is, we have NO grass.
Flying weather, yep...all the time.
Lousy gun laws....yep got those.
Grass anywhere in sight, nope.
Building season, Eh? what's that.
DD with undercarrage.....want one.
