first off this plane i didnt design for speed but its a BIG STICK .60 with a TTR .80 in there. its balanced well. it doesnt seem overpowered but you wont stall it in a steep climb. well we were at the feild down in fairfeild and we were doing some speed runs and my BIG stick was turning some impressize numbers. i ran 172.3 first run and a 181.0mph the 2nd.......how does that fair to you all? alotta guys there were amazed at my plane though....and thats not going in on overspeed either thats just flying about 15-20ft off the ground in a striaght line at full stick.....[8D]

I'd say get a new Radar or method for determining your speed. Something ain't right, because your plane is not going near that fast.

just wondering do you think the angle of the radar gun or something of that sort could have done it possibly? i do know out of the planes there it was the fastest...................[&:]

I don't think the angle would cause that much of a distortion. When you shoot the radar at an angle, you normally get a reading that is LOWER than what you get from head on or behind the plane. I'm guessing the radar was out of tune and needed recalibration.

Just so you have an idea of speed. Look at the picture of the green and white plane in my Avatar. That plane is roughly 4 pounds and extremly streamlined. It has a Nelson .40 on the nose that turns a 8 pitch prop at over 23,000 rpm. Typical speeds are approximately 180-185 mph.

I can't imagine your Big Stick doing much anything over 100 mph, and probably a bit less.

The stalker radar gun is a pretty good model, a guy at the field uses his all the time. It comes with a tuning fork to verify its calibration. I suggest that it is rechecked.

What prop and rpm are you getting with the .80 (by the way, what is a TTR?) Is that Thunder Tiger?

Two stroke or Four stroke?

I find it HARD to believe that a big stick in a power dive could hit over 100mph. It is way to draggy of a airframe and you would flutter the control surfaces off at that speed. I race P-51's and Spitfire's that are highly modded and only hit around the low 160's. It sounds like the speed gun needs a little work. [8D]

sorry but noooo way.
our club had a speed contest 2 weeks ago.
my friends 120 size stick with a os160 with tuned pipe could barley do 100.
we had a 40 sized ultra sport with retracts and a 68 engine win and it would only do 116.

excuse me! just because i dont post much (i dont have much to post about or have much knowledge in planes) doesnt mean im a troll. im fairly new to planes and this is my 14th solo.[&:] i do know i had the fastest plane outta the group there. let alone they were older guys who took it real easy on their planes. the gun could have been off and i dont know for sure but with your all's expertise i guess it/was off. anyways the plane is a big handful from me since i learned on it cause i dont have a trainer. oh well since i raced stadium trucks for a few years i guess that helped................[X(]

Dang Razor, you strike again! I think your a female with that uncanny ability to strike the nerve.[sm=bananahead.gif] Of course I do agree a 150+ stick is a little out side the box.

Oops- I apologize GT-Power! That was rude of me....

Sometimes someone will drop and and attempt to start a mud-fight and I WRONGLY ASSumed you were doing that-

SO as I attempt to backpeddle lemme say welcome to the speed forum and keep us posted on what is apparently a purty fast stick---

What is a TTR-80?

Cheers!

you sure the radar didn't pick up that Peregrine Falcon with its sights firmly on a field mouse.

Are you sure the gun wasn't reading kilometers/hour? 172 km/hr would be 106 MPH.

It is not a Stinger .40. It probably is some QM40 plane.

What parts would you like included in a Stinger 40 kit? You get a fuse, a tail and a wing... what more do you need?
Most people won't use the stuff someone includes in his kits anyway.

I guess I'm relunctant on the STinger because of the sheeting on the wing.As stupid as it sounds,I've never sheeted foam and everyone tells me how simple it is.I've just never gone there and there's probably nothing but patience involved. I don't remember the STinger ad saying anything about tail feathers.Didn't know that was included.

It's still tempting as I want something faster then my Viper with Jet and the Stinger sure looks slick...

Thanx
Walt

Mine came already sheeted...

Are they selling them with only foam cores in the States?[X(]

The plane is not a stinger. It is a Vendetta Quarter 40 plane, heres a link to the website:

http://www.angelfire.com/ok2/racewithme/lylepage.html

The Vendetta is down the page a little bit. Lyle (the guy with the WWII helmet on) is holding the Vendetta.

GT------

welcome to the speed world.

Don't let these guys scare ya off. Every so often someone comes in and posts something about their Fox .35 powered Kaos performing at 200 mph.... and it has caused the trip switch on their BS alarms to become a bit sensitive

The ultra-stick is a bit of a draggy airplane, but I have in the past had an old Ugly Stick (basically the same animal) flying over 110 mph ....... with a bunch of power up front..... and the plane was modified to survive the speed/drag. So it is possible to get that beast to move along. But as noted, getting any model up over the 150 mph range requires some serious HP and a plane designed for the speed.

In any event....... I am pleased to see some more folks interested in performance aircraft at any level. There is always a thrill in having a plane that is not suppose to be very fast....... really move.

I see you are in Ohio here. If I recall, Greenville is over near Eldora ? Correct???

Bob

A Speed example....

....this is kinda like a Stick....box fuselage, full symetrical wings, in a slight dive
cranking for all it was worth (peaked-up)....OS .60 RF....
....shot by some Giant Scale Racers with a state of the art gun....

....105 mph....[sm=stupid.gif]
