Magnum Gear ????
Hey all.....
Been reading the forums for a while now, but never posted so this will be the big number 1 post for me....
I have a Westy Magnum but havn't flown it yet!
Problem is, theres no grass at my strip-
Obvisouly take off/ hand launch is no problem, but landings is gonna be-
I think I have 3 options - tricycle style gear, tail dragger gear, or some sort of padding on the underside. As I said, take off isn't a problem, so a dolly isn't what am looking for, it's the landing....
Thanks for all the help (to come)
Cheers

RE: Magnum Gear ????
Hey.... welcome......
Lots of magnum owners here to help.
In the short term, what surface do you have to land on? Dirt? Paved? Smooth surface for the most part ? combination of the these ??
One idea....... would be the unicycle wheel with tip-skid and tail skid approach. Single wheel mounted about on the CG - what you would see on a Glider. Also what the U-2 spyplane had. There is probably enough meat in the center section of that wing to at least permit a half exposed (or more) wheel. Probably the lowest drag, lowest weight solution. Tip skids could probably be omitted for use of skid-strip tape.
I believe the Angel Designs Rifle is set up somewhat this way.
Just an idea

RE: Magnum Gear ????
Magnum R comes with a drawing showing where to put main wheels in a taildragger type configuration. They don't guarantee it though.
It may be a possiblilty though.

Phyris,
One option is to add lite ply skids.
As James said, I put gear on mine (original Magnum), but the new one's also have the same template (just checked). If you need it, let me know and I'll make a copy for you.
I wouldn't even consider a "tricycle gear" set up.
Welcome to the "sickness".
Gary
BTW, take off was sweet as could be, with just a touch of right on the rudder.
