Default Oh my goodness, I think I AM addicted....

Well, just got my plans and wing cores for the Lyka Jet the other day and will be starting construction soon...

BUT, had to meet a friend at a local swap meet to pick up a bearing, and I walked away with this! Fully fibreglassed fuse and wings, nice paint job and retracts! Some minor damage to underside of the nose, but nothing that can't be repaired...

Hehe... now just need to get an engine for it that will smoke my buddy's YS 45 powered Patriot!!

Addicted to Speed planes and lovin' it!!!! Hahahahahahahahahaahahaha!!! [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

LOL, Razor! Somehow I knew that was going to be the engine suggested!!

Actually, maybe I'll just go real speed crazy and stuff this into the front of it.... Jett Fire 60L!!!

Any experience with the MVVS engines?

AWESOME!

And a"red" Jett would look good up front! Strap one on, and SMOKE your buddy's arse!

What a great find...enjoy it.

Gary

Edited to add the color "red"

Leadfoot......

You do not want the 60L for a speed ship. Its not designed for RPM. Built more as a big-prop version of a .40. Works great for scale and the 60H is great for 3D stuff.

Although you can use the 60L and its a versitile engine, if that is a DC-20, you want either a SJ-50 or FIRE-50 in there

I saw that at the tigers swap meet too and thought about it. The only thing that turned me off was the weight. It seemed very heavy for a small f20. It sure looks nice! I bet it will rip around once complete.

I had a MVVS .45 in my Kangke F-20. It wasn't a 130 mph plane but still plenty fast and a hoot to fly. I have several MVVS engines .28 just aquires for my Miss LA, (2) .45s, and a .49 RE. So far so good. I can't wait to see pics of your lyka Jet.

Hey Bob, got any muffler suggestions for the .28?

Kaos,

I'm not overly concerned with the weight of the plane, not a whole lot heavier than my GP Patriot, though it is slightly smaller. I figured at the price I got it for, I'll over power it, scream around the sky and if it bores in and leaves a crater, so be it!!! lol! [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

Bob,

I have always admired the Jett engines, but the price tag (no offense of course) has kept me away to this point. I'm sure that the quality and power output is worth every penny, so maybe I'll have to save my loonies and twoonies (haha, how about that for a Canadian reference!), and get myself one!

Funny quote I heard from a guy at my LHS: "The Jett engines are the 'bling-bling' of the r/c world!'

Johnny H.R.,

Just trying to see if I can get the canopy off so that I can rework the pilot and make him look a little better!

Than I have to decide on what to do to make orientation a little better...

Maybe a big, blue eagle on the bottom?? Seemed to work for you! [:-]

heheh.... Bling Bling..... I will have to remember that

Yeah...they cost a bit more. Tends to work out that way. Dub eats more than just Rice 3 times a day, and the EPA seems to be more than a just a bit intersted where all of the cutting oil and solvents end up.

They are not much more actually, once you compair apples to apples. If you were to buy a new OS46, purchase a pipe/header combination, and plan ahead on replacing the bearings in about 3 hrs time.... that cost about the same as a SJ-46 would have in the first place [&:]

You can always add one of the jett mufflers to any engine to get additional performance too. No o-rings or special mounting.. just bolt right on.

My personal favorite right now is the Thunder Tiger 46........ bolt on a jett-stream and (from what I experienced) it outperforms most engines in its class. For what it ends up costing, its pretty good HP for the $

West 50 or a regular Webra 50 are stout engines.

The Nova Rossi and Rossi 45 and 53 size engines are darn good. MVVS 49 is good too. All are excellent performing engines.
Although, again, compair total cost of apples to apples.

Vicman.........

The Jett Stream .30 muffler with the MVVS bolt-on adapter works very nicely on the .26 and the .28

I hope you didn't take that personally, as it was in reply to his Leadfoots first post.

Sounds like you two are good friends, with a little "ribbing" goin' on. It's all in good fun. Ask Flyboy Dave about our gangs "speed plane" ribbing.....it never ends!

Gary,

Don't worry about Johnny, he's a good friend of mine and a fellow speed addict. He's heading towards the jets though, and once he gets his turbine, he may finally win the speed race between the two of us!

He's really the one that got me hooked on the speed type planes, watching him fly his first Patriot (which is the one I now fly) and his current one.

We just need to learn to stay away from each other in the air, we've had three mid-air collisions, the last one resulted in the demise of John's much loved Sig Kobra!

And really there's nothing better to scare the crap out of the other flyers at our field than a couple of Patriots or F-20's doing low, high speed passes!!

Any thoughts on the MVVS 49? One of the Canadian online stores has them currently for $139.95...

How would it stack up against the TT 46 Pro, OS 46AX or the YS 45? I know, I know, just get the Jett 50 and blow them all out of the water!!! lol

Thanks,
Steve

That's when you can see how fast they really are, LOW and on the "deck"! I used to do that with my Magnum.....talk about an adrenilin rush!

The YS 45 would be 3rd in line IMHO, behind the Jett 50, and West 50. Do keep in mind you can buy the West 50 with the Genisis Tune pipe for about the same price as the Jett 50 with the standard exhaust. In fact, I don't even think Dubb offers a tune pipe for the 50, I think you'd have to go with the *FIRE* series. Maybe Bob could clarify this. Don't get me wrong, the Jett 50 is NO slouch! Another to consider is the Rossi 45. And while I haven't been too impressed with the OS line of motors as of late, I have heard good things about the OS 50SX.

As for the "sport" motors....take your pick. I've blown ST's, OS's and MDS's. I'm not one (anymore) to pipe the sport motors as they just can't seem to take the R's.

Simply do what your budget allows.

I fogort about that one....... the OS50 has shown to be very impressive.

The MVVS 49 is pretty good too. For $139, thats a pretty good deal.

The West 50 is a heck of a good powerplant combined with the pipe setup.

There is definatly no shortage of good engines out there

Follow-up to AirGar.....
any of the Jett side exhaust engines can be purchased with a full pipe and header.... marine pipe, standard pipe, or a quiet pipe. Provides performence above that seen with the muffler........ generally about 500-600 more rpm... and the big thing is you can dial it in for exactly the rpm range and prop you want to turn (just like the FIRE......engines run pretty much the same). The Quiet pipe setup is quieter than the muffler...so that is a bonus. The deciding factor tends to be...... is the extra 600 rpm worth the bit of extra drag and complexity? Sometimes it is Photo attached shows a 90L side exhaust and pipe installation.

The pipe's Dub sets up and provides are slightly modified. But any 6.5 or 7.5 cc pipe setup will work. Bolt pattern is the same as a Webra 40/50, or ST .40/45. So you could bolt on that West 50 pipe setup mist likely without any modifications. Might be a good experiment.
