Default My 1st Patriot!!

My name is Matt and I am an addict...

I got this patriot used and for a song so it was hard to resist, it has always been on my list but I could never justify it until now. The bird appears to be a 1st gen kit with flaps installed. Retracts are mechanical and the plane has some wear on it. I plan on stripping it down to the frame and going over it and recovering it. Not sure on scheme so I will have to do some research. Maybe the Thunderbird scheme since its easy to do

I intend on a Magnum 52xls for power and standard servos unless told otherwise from you guys [:-] I dont want to break speed records with it but cruise along at a decent clip, I feel this motor might do that. I have read many of the Patriot threads and there is loads of info, if anyone feels that I should def know about it please let me know and I will consider it when I re-build it out.

anyways, just wanted to share my new bird and show it off a bit.

Ahhh.... A new Patriot pic is just what I needed--- I would fly it like that as long as it is structurally sound and trim it out and what not-- then doll it up afterwards!

The Magnum-52XLS is supposed to be a hummer, I have seen one but it was on a 3D plane so no Rpm #'s-- I would start with a 10x6 or 10x7apc them move to a 9x8 for some more speed.

I have had 4 Patriots all use(d) standard servos 148's or 3003 Futabas---(One had Split flaps and landed maybe 15MPH-) I do like to run a 6V flight pack to get the torque around 60 oz. but will not be necessary with the Magnum- Just make sure your linkage is smooth yet NO SLOP, and that the retracts cycle easily I have used Spring-Air and Mechanical with no problems on either system--

I am sure you will love the Patriot, and maybe we can gradually talk you into getting a Jett-50 for it [X(]

If you have any questions, fire away this is the place to do it!

Matt- You need to put this on the actual "Speed-Freak" thread.... Otherwise these posts would be spread all over RCU [X(]

ok guys, I got it stripped off, anyone suggest a cool scheme for it? I'm starting to search F-5, F-20's for scale schemes as a possibility. Also looking here for inspiration from other Patriot pilots. I contemplated the Blue Angels but the jury is still out on it.

Take a look at some of the Grumman F-11 color schemes. That plane resembles the Patriot outline better than most others.

http://www.cradleofaviation.org/exhi...trium/f11.html

http://www.grummanpark.org/blueangels.htm

http://www.military.cz/usa/air/post_war/f11/f11_en.htm

http://www.blueangels.org/Aircraft/S...Stickm4_2a.htm

You will find lots of blue angles pictures, but look up some of the VMF and Navy squadron colors. There is a good 'profile' book on the F-11 too

Vicman! I wish they were still alive... I have 2 Patriots currently, the Arf shown above and a used one I bought off that "auction site" - (see pic.)

I do not build very well so I "poach" airplanes off other people-

The best combo I had was a kit built with a Jett-50, 9x9 APC, Spring-Air retracts and split flaps. Dave and Gary saw it fly, great performer!

Happy New Year Speed Freaks!
