Two locals have this plane. Both excellent pilots. These things are supersonic and as far as speed goes are everything they are made up to be. Although they are fast, they are lousy flying planes. When the engine quits on these things, there is no glide ratio at all. You can be going 100mph over the threshold and be lucky if it does not drop short of the runway and i am serious. You want speed, you got it, you want a nice flying plane, forget it.
I saw this thing come over 150mph down the runway. He was high enough when the engine quit, any other plane would have made it back. As fast and high as he was it should have been a piece of cake, he swung it around with airspeed to spare and it simply fell.

lift = drag = slow fast plane. its no glider.
the trick is, know when your gonna run out of fuel, this is normally the last big dive you do, do it going down wind and slightly high, when the engine cuts pull up without dropping toooooo much speed, then turn back ( wing overs work ) and dive for the patch and flare out. 90% of the landings here are on the patch, forget gliding, learn how to land this plane and you'll find no problems. large elevator movements and rearward CofG also help

PS, dont moan..... the first version had a balsa flat plate wing, you hardly ever got a change to do the wing over, you landed the way it was pointing unless you came in with power and risked the prop. compaired to that, this is a dream. its also faster!

Real good. I have the Jett 90 mounted and all the controls are hooked up. Need to install the receiver and start bringing it all together. The canopy is really bothering me. I tried hacking up a "SIG generic. It was okay for a first try. Gonna get another and try again. But I still have the original if I have too.

Default Canopy pain in the ###

I know what you mean....my next one is gonna be hacked out of solid balsa, hollowed out, glued on and painted. I was real disappointed when the one on my .40 size started to melt a couple weeks ago.

I can not agree with you. I fly my Magnum for the firts time this weekend and he glide perfectly and give you time to plan your landing.
The thing is that when you are gliding you need more elevator throw.
I set my dual rate and also my exponentials for this matter.
Man this thing is SUPER BALISTIC:spinnyeye
The aileron move very little and I have around 80% expo
the elevator I have a lot of EPA and 80% expo.

Maybe yours friend Magnums have the CG to forward and are nose heavy.
My CG is aound 125mm from LE.
Maybe 130MM is better to have more elevator authorithy.

about time you got that Magnum going Isaac
80% expo is way too much, you must have too much travel, ours are about 25-30% tho.... you use most of the stick for flying and stay within the 80% then that last 20% jump helps with landing... way too soft for my liking tho

Hey phillybaby, thank god this thing was an ARF
I was taking my time to asemble it and reinforce everything.
Also, I live in Central America and in this time of the year is raining very hard:drowning: So thats whay I a take more time to fly this bulled.
The only thing that I need to do to the Magnum is a color trim with Monokote because I take out the fake carbon fiber trim

Do you know were I can see some pictures so I can take an idea of a trim for my Magnum?

THX,

Isaac
