Well, made the "Y" linkage for the elevator, and I can honestly say....what a pain! Not a lot of room in back. I ended up using a couple wheel collars, and then a touch of solder. I used Lock-tite on the set screws. (4*40)

Rudder linkage is a straight piece of 4*40 rod. I plan on using Sullivan Gold clevises.

Did a rough sand, and then used some light weight spackle for some of the minor (hangar rash) dings, dents, seams, etc..

One more final sanding, then a coat of Sig Stix-it and the covering begins!!

BTW, I decided on using a Jett "bubbleless" tank, as I want a trouble free maiden....at least as far as the motor is concerned! [X(]

Nice work,GAR. A plane that looks that fast is a rare sight around here! I think I live in the land of the ARF trainers. Let's hear it for HI-PERF-RC!

Was that a pain
I used a copper tubing, and crimp then in place, then solder. Not that bad[8D]

[sm=punching.gif] crap..crap...and CRAP! [:@] I'm very disappointed in the way the covering came out. I went and bought a few rolls of Monokote, only to end up getting a wild hair about colors & trim and patterns, and covering it with some of the partial rolls I had. I should of stuck to my original plan. I won't make that mistake again. I ended up rushing through the final area, just to finish it. Please keep your criticisms to a minimum. (yeah right....YOU guys?) Hopefully, it will be fast enuff where no one will notice.

I still have to cover the bottoms of the ailerons and elevators and cover the rudder, but that's it. I'm pi$$ed, I need a beer...

HI GARY! HEY, for a guy who looks as young as you do, I think you did a mighty fine job! Seriously, I couldn't have done any better, that's why I stick to boring, functional jobs. I think you are going to think that plane is the most beautiful thing in the sky, and that's where it counts! The important thing is to get as much fun as you can out of any project. I hope you get 1000 hair raising flights out of it!

Well..Thanks guys.....but there was a reason I didn't do a close up pic. You don't even know how close I came to re-doing it, OR giving it my Son-N-Law and ordering another one. BUT....I fnished the covering this morning, and will post more pics after I get the control surfaces and motor installed.

This isn't the "concours model forum"! I'll bet 90% of the photos posted here don't show 90% of the flaws either. I say get 999 adrenaline pumping flights out of it 'till it turns into a fuel soaked mess, then for flight # 1000 strip all the gear out of it, load up the sucker with about $40 worth of ESTES rockets and send it off in the general direction of DEVILs' PLAYGROUND[X(]! Someday I would like to spend a couple of hours at a CHINESE ARF sweat shop to watch them cover those things as perfect as they do. I'll bet they have all the hand movements timed and choreographed down to the split nano second. They sure wouldn't want to hire me!

Whoa... what is it? Do tell...

I cover like crap... kinda like I build-- I fly ok tho--

Devils Playground? He flies at El Mirage, and I nicknamed the lake-bed the "Devils Crotch" after a ski/snowboard-run in Steamboat CO. (No real reason..) some super-duper double black diamond run complete with rocks and moguls [:@]

CP,

I love to cover, but when I screw it up, I get MAD at myself. Rather than stop, and re-think it thru....I chose to continue so I can only blame myself.....unfortunately.

I do agree with you on some of them Chinese ARF's, but I guess if we did it for a living and had everything pre-cut with jigs, guides, templates, and of course a few extra set of hands, we could probably do just as good. Well, maybe...

Hey Vicman,

You holding out on us? C'mon man, DETAILS!

Don't Estes rockets have fuses and parachutes? Where ya hiding'em, don't see them in your pic?

Why would I slow it down with a chute??[X(] Two words JATO Baby!!![sm=bananahead.gif] I'm still working out the ignition so I can get both motors to go at the same time. The pic is of the alpha version, I gave it to a buddy before I got to fly it. Beta has been a hoot, on the plate tonight is an X-29, I hope to fly it this weekend.

PM for plans

I'm having too much fun with this foam stuff.

Looks nice to me Gary !

I gave up trying to do show-plane monokote a while ago. Its not hard to do...... I just have so little time these days, its just an extra 10 hrs in the shop I cant seem to find. Nice looking utility finish is all I need.

Yours looks much better than a utility finish
