Yesterday I ordered my Weston Magnum ARTF with the new 50 size engine and pipe. Obviously I don't have it yet, but was wondering what I need to buy to finish this plane.

I know I need radio gear and a 2" spinner. Is there anything else I need to supply?

Also what are the recommended type (speed, torque & size) of servos for this plane? How many do I need?

Also I can't remember if the plane has rudder control, or it is only 3-channel? (throttle, ailerons and elevator)

I use Futaba and want to look at getting good servos now so I don't have a delay when I get the plane.

no rudder.
here they use standard ballraced servos, so that and higher will be fine. yes i know i know, flutter, centering. ( never seen a centering problem myself )
i hear you can get a 9oz Dubro tank in them, i would go for it you'll want the extra time, watch those brass bits cracking off tho.

What size tank does it come with in the kit?

Anybody else care to comment on their experience with servo types?

6oz, it didnt last long on the old 46WXL, but the 50 sucks it like a little goat in no time

Had a Magnum since Febuary, flyies perfect for me!!
I use standard servo's Futaba 3002 !! and have never had any bad experiences with em.

I use the old wxl with pipe. have never clocked it but it makes heads turn, and for me it's enough to handle.

I fly in heat in exess of 40 deg celcius, during the summer months, and still with 10% nitro she performs.

Have FUN with this great little ship, and you will get hooked on her!

I am using a Hitec 300 on the throtle, Hitec 425 on the ailerons and a Hitec 545 Hi Torque on the elevator.

Get the biger fuel tank,

So I went looking for the 9oz Dubro tank and can only find either an 8oz or a 10oz.

Does Dubro actually make a 9oz tank?

Also what is the shaft size on the Magnum 50 engine? I am looking to buy a spinner and need to know the size for the adapter.

I bougt my spinner from the same place I order the Magnum.
I pay around $10.oo Ask the same place were you bought your Magnum.

im sure it was isaac that meantioned the bigger tank, so ask him. i know SLEC do a 9.... but thats square and bulkier i guess

Yes, I was the one :-) I install a 8 Onz Dubro fuel tank. I am pretty sure that maybe you can install a biguer one. You have to find a diferent brand because the Dubro 10 Onz was to wide and does not fit.

I also recomend you to reinforce the front mounting block on the fuselage were the wing is atachet with one wood dowel.
I was checking my airplane and there is a play on the wing in that part.............I found that part/wood that have a hole in the fuselage has a crack near the wall of the fuselage, so I have to reinforce that part with epoxy.
Maybe that part crack because a hard landing.

I pay around $10.oo Ask the same place were you bought your Magnum. The Spinner come with the spinner adapter

Maverick, I dont know the shaft size on the engine. But call the hobby shop were you bought the Magnum.......I am pretty sure they have the one that is intended for the Magnum.

Well is the same size for the nut, also the threaded shaf is more longer so the spinner adapter has more to bite...........
BTW this engine is a Webra 50 :-)

i suppose the West 36 isnt a Webra 35 thats been played with, and the Webra 36 due out soon isnt a stock version of that now is it lol

I am pretty sure that the WXL engine was a Chineese engine
and the brand of that engine is also Magnum.

The first round of engines produced for the Magnum were modified Magnum engines. This new batch are made by Webra specifically to our specifications by Webra. The cost is slightly more, but the reliability of the motors and quality has increased.

anyways, after seeing the West 50s take those high speed runs, shrug their shoulders and say, "come on, that all you got flyboy?" you know why i want the 36 so bad
my Outlaw's Magnum has had 3 sets of ballraces, and a crankshaft snap which needed the case replacing as well, all in just over a year. That Outlaw cant wait to try spanking a West 36

Hey Joe, I know Webra has recently release a 52AAR that is more powerfull than the regular 50 you are using at the present time. Have you think about using the 52AAR engine in the future for the WESTON MAGNUM project.......Something like WEST 52V3 Maybe with your Weston spec you can take more horse power and RPMīs from this engine.
