Default Jett Q500 vs Jett .50

i ordered a jett q500 engine for my dd thinking that it will be faster than the jett fire .50. I've just browsing around and saw a man saying in a post that the .50 will turn 8.75x9 prop faster than the q500 is it true??

The .50 can be ordered with the Quickee muffler, and it will make more power. Will out rev the .40 or turn a greater pitch prop the same. Call Jett, they will discuss options.

Default q500 vs fire 50

The q500 is a 40. It will not turn a big prop as fast as a 50. But for speed you want pitch and rpm. The q500 will turn faster than the 50. If speed is what you want then the q500 will do it. I went with a nelson q40 with a 7x9 carbon fiber prop and should get 23,000 on the ground. No way the fire 50 can touch this. With small diameter prop i may be sacrificing takeoff thrust but something tells me my 3 pound whiplash will be hard to hold back with the nelson screaming wide open.

You can special order the quickee setup on the 50. The only difference I know of between the sport and the quickee series is the muffler and the backplate mount, possibly the carb too. The 50 set up like the 40 will outperform it, faster RPM on the same prop. In fact my Predator with the 50 and 8.75 x 9W prop is nearly matched in speed with a QM40 with a Nelson 40 and 7.5 x 7 prop. I haven't measured thrust but my quickee feels like it has a 2 to 1 power ratio. I emailed the company and I got a response directly from Dub. How about that for customer service. I asked him for a motor that would be extremely fast and not be too pricy. I had it a week later. Infact the guy with the QM40 replaced his Nelson with the same engine I have because he liked the idea of having a throttle control.

Here is a pic of the quickified 50 before mounting it on the plane. The muffler is the shorter black one, tuned for the higher RPM's. The backplate is also an upgrade.

Default qm40

I have a jett fire 60,50 and nelson qm40. They are different engines. The timing and porting are different. I cant believe you can get your jett fire 50 to turn 23,000 rpm without significant modifications. I am hesitant to run the 7x9 prop on the jetts to find out. The nelson with a carb is 50% more expensive than the jett.
