Where have you been? "Bob Violet Models( BVM) There is no substitute. What you ask for will cost you upwards of $10,000. Go for it!
If money is no object, have "Santa" send me a kit too.

Default Just wondering?

pdilip,

Just wondering, have you ever seen a model jet go by at more than 220 mph?

What is the fastest model aircraft you have ever flown?

thanks cyclic,i am new to rc. so couldn't find one thanks for your help. DILIP

DILIP, if your new to RC and getting into rc planes your going about it in the wrong way. First of all they make trainers for a reason. You need to get used to the fight characteristics of an rc plane before even thinking about a jet.

Another thing is if your new to rc I seriously doubt that you will ever get the engine tuned correctly to even get it off the ground. This may be a big disappointment to you if you are looking to be in the hobby for a while. Another thing is you will crash your jet if that is the route you decide to go. Whether its on take off or right after the wheels come off the ground.

I would seriously reconsider on the type of plane you decide to learn with. I wouldn't go out and get the "coolest, or fastest plane" There is alot of work in involved in them than just glueing it together like a model kit. There is fiberglassing and sanding priming painting involved.

I am not trying to keep you from flying just trying to guide you in the right way to get into this fun hobby.

check out this link and this will give you an idea where to get started at.

Good Luck!

Default trainer

I would reccommend the tower hobbies version of this plane. It comes with a 46 BB engine instead of the 40 la. The 40 LA makes a good paperweight thats about it. The 46 will be usable in your second plane , a low wing sport model.

Ok you speed freaks, I have been flying for bout 20 years, the fastest plane I had is a scat cat with a piped st40 on it. (maybe 120 mph at best) was skittish as hell at that speed. (always seemed to be hunting for a groove) I have been looking at the diamond dust and jett FIRE 50. This should really haul butt, does this plane suffer from the same twitchy flight characteristics as the scat cat? I dig speed but a nervous plane makes my knees knock!
Thanks, Tom.

Default scat cat

My scat cat is smooth as silk. I have dual rates for the high speeds and its a ***** cat. On high rates it is very touchy. I think once you get a model trimmed out and get the CG in the right spot and have rates low enough they are all easy to fly. Key is low throws or exponential.

Sorry for the *****. Maybe i should have said kitty.

Default Scat Cat

I have a Scat Cat also........ well did lets say. I took it through tree and it didn't not come out the other end. My SC flew very smooth and tracked straight. I had exp. set at about 50% all around and it kept it from being to twitchy. At any speed it was easy to fly and never was a problem.

I had a OS 46 FX with Mac's pipe and it flew pretty quick. The only reason I wrecked it was because flying it I would be so laid back I would be talking to others while flying.

Now DD on the other hand flies a bit different. But its still tracks straight and is predicable. Just predict about 10 seconds ahead of anywhere you fly it.

From what I have read here it sounds like I had my elevator rate set a bit too high, I don't have it anymore as I virtualy took out a pylon with it in Idaho! Pretty cool looking crash though, lots of yellow and red monokote confetty. Snoopy the pilot was never heard from again. One thing that may have affected the way it handled is the way I finished the leading edges of the wing and stabs, they were as sharp as I could get them. Got the Idea from the F-104 star fighter, you could cut yourself on the LE's, and it was a fast plane for it's day!

But hopefully a littel wiser.....

Lomchevak, I'm guessing here but that super sharp leading edge may have been the cause of your problems. I'll bow to the airfoil pundits but I remember seeing that a super sharp leading edge can cause intermittent separation bubbles under some situations. If you'd even let it have a 1/8 inch diameter then it would probably have been a whole different story. The Starfighter had that airfoil for transonic and supersonic flight. And according to Dustflyer we don't go that fast.......
