Default Patriot.... Kicky Butt....

....while you guys are wondering about what "hot"
.45's are good for the Patriot ( heh heh heh ), I'm
comin' out with this old fashioned hard pipe .60
Rossi in mine.

Yep....an 11-7 1/2 MAS, and 5%. (don't make
me put the long pipe on it). And please, bring your
pink slips with you to the field. ( don't
mind me folks....just "raggin' on a couple friends )
They know who they are....

Couldn't help it....Dave.

them O.S. Max .60 FSR's look in her eye. If I
could talk R/C cat lingo....it's about 1500 RPM's.

Default Holy Schmoley!

Where do you come up with these sweet FSR's? Does you Pat have intakes or do they slow you down too much?

Attention Cyclic! Please see the above "Boat Anchor".....

I don't think a bowling ball will fit in that skinny fuse to balance her though..

I need pics!
james
BTW- Did the older Patriot kits have a flat top fuse and a full canopy? The one I have does not have the "turtle-deck" :stupid:

Default Yo Razor....'ya made me go look....

....mines still in the box. It's the old one, has the
round top deck. I'm probably just gonna add some
wood to the front of the intakes, and taper 'em out
for some stream-lining. A little black paint, or some
trim tape....and let'er rip. I kinda' like the way
the scoops blend into the fuse....and don't want to
give it a "generac'' jet look.

Not to worry....I'll get the .60 Rossi in the nose,
and get her balanced out....without adding any
weight. Like with my .40 size Cermark F-20, with
the long pipe Rossi .45 ( kinda' heavy ) I had to
epoxy a flat-pack RX. batt. upright....dead flat up
against the rear bulhhead of the tail....just clearing
the through elevator. I hope it never comes loose.

Default Yo, Razor.....

....I don't know what to tell ya' Bud. I looked all over
the box and the manual, and stuff....and couldn't find
any "born on date". I've never seen one
with a flat-top. The way the canopy is moulded, it
won't fit on anything but a round "deck".

Yo, Cyclic....that was at idle...He He....

Default patriot vs f-20 vs kouger

Roy:

I have had the Partiot (2 of them) and I am currently flying the Cermark F-20 (40 size kit). My first Partiot had retracts and a YS 45 with pipe. We clocked the model a144 mph. My second Partiot was the ARF with retracts and an OS 40 VR (front intake/rear exhaust). I never clocked this model, but it was noticably slower than the Patriot with the YS. My current model is the Cermark F-20 with mechanical retracts (Hobico) and a Rossi 40 with Macs pipe. While I have not clocked this model either, but it is faster than my TGA F-15 with retracts and OS 91/Dynamax. I have let others fly the F-20 and they absolutely love it. IMHO the F-20 lands better than my Patriot. I agree with the other posts that either the Partiot of the F-20 would be good choices and the engine determines how fast you go. I would bet that even with an OS 46 FX, you will still have a blast with the plane. Good luck with whatever configuration you choose.

I spoke to Morris Hobbies, and they've started making ARFs of the Tom Hawk! In fact they've been flying the prototype here for the last couple of weeks. Should be available sometime in Jan/Feb...

Default F-20

Sin duda arma un F-20 de Direct Conecction será la mejor decisión para ese 46FX . Yo tengo uno aqui en Venezuela.

Is wondefull.

No te arrepentirás....

Default patriot vs f-20 vs kouger

I have an F-20 and a Patriot. ( both very old) I have a Rossi45 with a tuned pipe ( not minipipe) on each of them, and they are fast. Not diamond dust fast , but lots of fun. I have retracts on both of them, and they are needed to go fast.

The Patriot has a poor setup for the rudder servo, and as a result, I get flutter in a split S. No such problem with a F-20.

While I agree that the Jett 50 is the way to go, ( I have one on my Desperado), I am a huge fan of the Rossi 45's. They are heavy, but they start easily, and are virtually indestructable. You can needle them too lean, and not hurt them.

I had a pair of Rossi 45's with pipes, on a Duellist. Now that was Fast! Actually too fast for the airframe. in a split s, at full throttle, going straight down, the entire tail departed the back of the airplane. Before I could throttle back it had already hit the ground. Both Rossi's were buried .... all the way to the backplates. I had to replace the carbs, but that was the only damage. Those two engines are now in my Patriot and F-20.

Default patriot vs f-20 vs kougar

Hi all,
I've gotten a Cermark F-20 .40 size (even though the thing is big enough to be a .60 size plane).

I really can't shoehorn my OS.61 FX into it, the remote needle valve assembly makes it impossible to have any clearance for fuel lines.

I want this thing to really rip, so I'm willing to buy another engine...now I've seen you guys recommend lots of things:
Rossi/Powerhouse 45-53
YS-45
MVVS-49
K&B Screamin' 48
Jett .50
all with Tuned pipes

So, Cyclic, Flyboy Ed and the others, give me your professional recommendation!

I hate to be the barer of bad news but after much research I was told by Great Planes that they had no intention of re-releasing either the arf or the kit of the Patriot.

I purchased a kit on line just for safe keeping.

I could be wrong but it was only 2 weeks ago that I talked to greatplanes.

That was my inderstanding too! They did a very limited re-run of the kit and it sold out extremely quickly. Now they have no intention of ever producing them again.

I guess the dies are worn out and they wanted to do one last limited re-run before retiring them permanently.

Default I'm with dekitter....

....I'm a huge fan of the Rossi .45's also. I run the long
pipe on a .40 size F-20. It's rated at 16,000 rpm's.

Mine turns 18,100 on the ground, and over 20 on the
pipe....on 5% nitro....still running the same plug it came
with. My break-ins differ from even the mfg's directions,
....but what do I know....

Chose your favorite, and go with it. Most say the Jett
will out-run the Rossi....I don't know, but hope to find
out this summer....one of my Bud's has a Jett .50 going
in a DC .40 F-20. If it will outrun mine....then so be it.

YS-45....seen 'em run, not impressed.

MVVS-49....never seen one one, but I think the pipe has
to be purchased seperatly...adds to the cost....and the
results are not in....

K&B Screamin' 48....I don't believe that they are available
right now.....I don't believe there is a tuned pipe for them,
have never seen one run....

Jett .50....I believe it comes only with a stock muffler.

I think it's a Ford/Chevy thing....whaddaya like, and how
much do you want to spend....

Dave.

Default patriot vs f-20 vs kouger

Say, Flyboy, been readin' up on these reeely fast planes since I scarfed a couple Patriot kits a few months back at the LHS in VA. Where do I get me one of them thar Rossi 45's on the cheap? I believe the best engine I have so far that would fit is a Webra 50 I just got for my Morris Knife. The OS 46 FX and TT 46 Pro's ain't gonna do the trick. I don't believe a couple extra ounces will hurt anything on the Patriot.

(sorry 'bout the southern drawl, but it's late and I'm tired...)

Default holy schmoly!

20K on the Rossi 45? Where can I get that long pipe SuperDave?

I have had a couple of YS's and they are runners- (A search always works best on this subject..)

Have not had the MVVS-49 same price as the Rossi- Gimme a Rossi!

Screamin' 48- was a screamer but dunno the figures..

Jett 50 is widely regarded as the most power for a sport engine at least out of the box- DAVE-

You rarely hear a complaint about 1 and they are hard to find in For Sale areas!

I want to try a Webra speed 50 in my Patriot-

I'm breaking in my first Webra 50 now and ohmygosh it's so much better than the OS 46 FX and TT 46 Pro. I believe the Saito 72 will go on the Morris Knife and the Patriot will get the Webra 50. The funfly needs a big airstream and the Patriot needs revs.

Chief doesn't list the Rossi's any more.

Roy you might try looking into the engine they are selling with Magnum from Weston Uk I believe it is a west 50 high revving it turns about 22,000 rpm and they guarantee 200 plus miles per hour with it on thier plane I had the magnum with a 46 fx on it and a tuned pipe and we clocked it at 119 mph
