Hi all,

I am wondering about fast planes having a tuned pipe change the airflow over one wing. Does it have any effect on the lift of the wing in question?

if yes, what would be the optimal place to minimize the effect? (distance from wing & fuse ?)

any good info on that?

I think it would have very little effect as far as wing lift. It probably affects cg balance more than anything.

there may be a small interactive effect at lower speeds.

But the effect will be inboard on the wing, near the wing/fuse interface which is sorta cruddy air anyway. Dont worry about it.

I think this was talked about once in the classic pattern forum. I seem to remember that there was no airfoil problems, but the exhaust was causing turbulence over the stab and this is where some of the 70's pattern planes used anhedral in the stab to get out of that dirty air caused buy pipes. As a side note i always lateral balance a plane, pipe or no pipe.
