I recommended the .40 because that is a common engine that is being raced with around the country.

Not sure if you ever intend to race the plane, but if you went with the .40 you would probably be ok.

Locally (In Minnesota) we are one of the odd ball groups that use the O.S. .46fx which is also a good engine for the plane.

If you have no intentions on racing, just about any of the sport .40 or .46 engines would be fine. In fact, we use to have a group that flew them with .25s and they would still go 90 mph.

I agree with Dave. If you have any inkling of wanting to race, get the TT 40 if there are APRA races in your area, or whatever the hot engine is in your area if non-APRA class quickie.

If you just want to go fast, any sport .46 will do. If buying a new one, check out the GMS 47 or Tower 46. I recommend them because of the muffler they come with. Next is the TT 46, Magnum 46, or OS 46. However, if I bought one of those, I would recommend changing the stock muffler to the Tower 46 muffler ($13), to a Performance Specialities pipe ($65) or a tuned pipe ($65).

Before I started racing, I flew my Predator with the TT46/Tower muffler on APC 9x8. It was fast.

I think C. Lee just reviewed the new Magnum 46, and said turned up with or bettered the Tower with the Tower muffler.

Prop choices with any of the above would be APC's 9x7, 9x8 or 9x9.

My $.02

Paul

I did a forum search on K&B 6.5s and got this thread.

I just got a 6.5 Q-500 engine on eBay and want to put a pipe on it. What prop would you recommend, and what RPM should I aim for? It's either going in one of my DD or in a real clean plane. Max top speed is the goal.

I ran a 10-6 in the start and now have a 9-7 on it which hasnt been ran yet, with a 10-6 it was pulling 12,000 RPMS but this engine should not exceed 19,000 RPM or the shaft will go.i was using a master airscrew with 10% nitro Byron fuel. After a few calculatios from a freind, we came up with a speed of 90-100 MPH, should bee better with a 9-7 on it. i dont use the landing gear, its hand launched, the launcher holds it, i nod to them and they let go--not throw it, just let go and shes gone.

you might be able to but the engine might have to be mouned quite a ways from the fire wall, youll need to make a special mount, as i did mine, its a back plate, works great.i think you should us the TT, id be easyier to mount, but once again, a mount to go on the small firewall of the predator is hard to find, or it was for me, so I made one.
