The first start was tough, after that all o.k. Could only get 14,700 instead of the 15,200 out of it.
What do you think cold weather 20 deg. or motor getting tired? This is one plane I just cant stop flying just pure fun.

Its just real tight when its cold like that. Should run the same or better in the air. Worry not.

Looks like fun

They run good in the cold after you get them started for the first time. You do need to be carefull with your receiver batteries. They definately drain quicker in the cold.

That's awesome. I almost wish it snowed here just so we could use skis.

I fly down here in Atlantic County, NJ. We have a pretty big field, looks as large as the one shown by FunFlyF4 in Vernon, NJ. I've never flown in th snow and am planning on our club having our first annual Deep Freeze fun fly on Jan 1st. Sort of break in the new year in style I guess.

I am going to have the skis ready for my Midwest Aerobat and if no snow, will fly my Tiger 60 or my new Excelleron 90 pattern plane. Not sure what one yet. I have to fix the broken wing tip on my Four Star 40 so I can maybe fly that one too.

Any hints for flying on the snow?

DS.

Wear sun glasses - glare off the snow can really get to you after a while

Winter golf gloves They are sold in pairs (walmart, sports stores)
keeps the fingers warm a bit while flying - still gives you a decent feel on the sticks.

Other than that -
I prefer to use wood props (I do not like to use anything plastic below about 40 degF - although APC props seem to be ok)

Hold full up elevator while taxing - and to start the take-off run.

Use great care when taxing and such. The plane is not going to slow down or stop as it would normally on grass or even pavement.

Make sure your starter and glow battery are well charged.

Be mindful that your transmitter and flight pack battery (NiCad) will last about 50% of its usual duration when it is cold. If you normally get 6-7 flights, plan on more like 3 or 4 before having to hit the field charger.

Given a choice (and depending on the airplane a bit), I prefer floats over skis for snow-ops. They do not mind ruts, foot prints, deep snow, no snow as much as the skis do.

Very funny f16 !! And skis are better for this one, as skis form drag is pretty small... Do they perform well in powdery snow ?
