13.5 lbs of thrust sounds a little bit low . The price on that engine doesn't seem right either, but I guess if you want to play that game badly enough...........

I would say that the 13.5 lbs is the weight. Thrust with 40 HP should be slightly higher.

All that money for the engine and he doesn't use a spell checker for his ad copy!

That prop look small, must crank it up fairly briskly. What do these guys run for props, something like 24-18, 24-20?

Just goes to show, with enough horsepower you can drag a piano through a knothole.

Let's guess that it's a 22x20 prop. That would net around 220 mph at 12,000 rpm. The thrust would be about 100 pounds, which would make flying this thing on a control line plane a decent work out. I think there was some nut, about 30 years ago who tethered his whole body to a stake and flew a BRIGGS and STRATTON powered thing from control cables, anybody remember anything about that ? For as much money as they want for this hot twin, you could get a 400 horse FORD or CHEVY long block!

I have a VCR tape that a friend gave me of the model air races held in Galveston. I am not sure of the year, but it looks to be sometime in the 90's. There are a bunch of Stilletos flying with custom engines such as shown here. Man they are just unbelieveable how fast they go. It must take really good reflexes to get them to pop around a pylon in one second or less. The Stilletos do land very nice and docile and seem to go from wild to mild very easily. They certianly looked easier to fly than the AT6 Texans that were so heavy that they were barely controllable. One Stilleto got so hot from the exhaust flames that the forward fuse actually melted and sagged in flight ! The pilot still managed to land it. I am sorry but I have no way of converting the tape for ya'll. I'm still just learning to use that dang VCR!

I have to question the 40 hp rating for a reed valve engine of that displacement. I would have to see a dyno printout of it to make me a believer. I've got a printout for my Monte Barrett IO-540 angle valve heavy crank Lycoming. 359 hp. But alas...it's a bit heavy for RC use.

Using the THRUST HP program, a 20x20 prop spun fast enough to acheive 227 mph needs 40 HP to get there. The static thrust is about 69 pounds.

Anyone who pays that much money for a oversized COX reed valved engine, can NEVER be robbed by anyone at any time.

hello all. i just started flying this past summer so im totally out of my area here. i fly aerobatic electrics. the plane in the ad i seen first hand at the air races held over summer in june i believe/ it was in rantoul illinois and i plan to attend this year if i have time. this particlular plane was in a head on crash do to another pilots error from what i was told. i saw several of these racers and was really surprised at the fuel they used as well as the fact they used glow plugs and open headers.. talk about loud. they did fly extremely fast and they came in very gentle on landings and all landed gracefully. i do have some video around here somewhere and i'll look for it and post if i can. i was told there was $10000.00 dollars in plane. P.S flyingvranch you can easily convert vhs to mpeg with a card or external usb device from $20.00 to around $100.00 depending on one you get this is midrange pretty much and good for most computer users for a nicer one/heres a link to brand ive used and installed in my computers as well as others and goes for $69.99 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...117227&CatId=0
