Which engine is faster in a Magnum/Dust, Jett 50 or West 50??
Which engine is faster in a Magnum/Diamond Dust, the Jett 50 or West 50 (purely based on top speed)??

I think bobs27 is the best to answer this question althought I do recall him saying something about useing the 60LX to obtain better speed than that of west 50v1 , I did learn however when that there is a 50lx version that is for the whiplash's , but have no idea of what they turn.. I'd really like to hear what bob has to say regarding this question

My opinion is either will be faster depending on your ability to tune and choose the right prop for the weather conditions. You also didn't mention pipes. that's a big factor too. I know you want a simple answer but those are hard to find. The nice thing about the Magnum is the combo with the West 50 and pipe is such a great deal.

Evan kinda hit it on the head there. Its all in the setup and how you fly the plane.
The West 50 with a full pipe on it ----- pleanty fast ------ tune pipe for 20K+ with an 8x8 prop.
Good engine, reliable - runs well - lots of power. Pretty good value on the combo deal.
Jett 50/60LX with SS jett-stream muffler ----- pleanty fast -- tuned to run 18K rpm and higher (9x8, 8.75x9W, 8.5x8.25)
-- comes with the muffler, no tuning, no coupler -- if there is any advantage i see, it is this aspect.
Jett with a full size pipe -- can do a little bit better than the muffler -- and pipe can be shortened to run over 20K rpm with smaller prop if desired. Cost more for the big pipe and header.
Which is faster ? Idunno... both setups are pretty quick - probably a dead heat on level flight speed in the Magnum. Kinda comes down to which powerplant you want, and what you may wish to do with the engine in the future.

I have a Jett fire 60 LX on my Diamond dust, very fast. The engine will turn over 20,000 on the ground with an APC 8.8X8.5 propeller and more than 19,500 with the APC 8.8X9 prop. The engine has about 1/2 gallon of fuel through it at this time.

I know this doesn't actually answer your question but I have a dust with a west 50 and a magnum with a west 50 although I have never clocked them the general opinion of everybody that has seen them is the magnum is faster. I don't use the 8x10 I like the 8 3/4 X 8 pylon props just because I feel safer with them, both of the engines tune on the ground almost exactly the same as my jett 50 fire and pipe with the same props. I have the jett 50 on a clipped dust but don't have much flight time on it yet so I really can't compare that one fairly. The jett and west are both awesome engines so I think it basically comes down to preference. I have a few other jetts and love them plus the customer service is way better and easier.

where does one get a speed rated 8x10 prop ?
best I can offer is the APC 8.8x9.5 prop, clipped to 8" diameter. At least I know it can safely turn 21k. Clipped a bit, on the 60LX it will turn up like the full blade 8.8x9 noted above and unload in flight a bit too.
When you get to these rpms, GOOD wood (modified) props, carbon fiber, or the Q-500 props are all I recommend. The sport series props (any brand) are not meant for loads like this.

I have 6 Jetts, 2 Whiplash 1 UK Magnum and a Jett 60LX FIRE on Order...
My buddy had a UK Magnum Weston 50 V1 come great price! andwith an 8x8 apc the little bugger hauled but on a cool spring evening!
In later discussions about tuned pipes, he concluded that the pipe was made for the 50V1, giving you MAXimum Profromance.
