Ok guys, i'm about to order a Beretta .21. I'm looking for a strong engine for it. I wanted to put probably the best engine for that plane, the NovaRossi Rx21-Fr/Ns, but it's 500$!!!!

Even if i'm flying expensive turbine jet i cant convience myself to pay 500$$ for a .21 engine... I already have a Jett Q500, Dubb is making nice engine, does it have a strong .21 engine??

There is the cheap mvvs .21, i never saw one run, are they any good??

I owned a K&B .21Df some years ago, strong and reliable engine maybe i should get one for that plane...

Do i have other option??

Mvvs has good power (0.26 has the same dimensions and more power), you need black mini silencer and change the carb (I had from ASP/Magnum 0.36). Mvvs works good on straight fuel with cold glow plug. I used OS8 and 3-5% nitro (but with CASTOR)

I dont know if you can still get them , but many years ago I bought a LEO .21 based as a marine engine , but it comes with an aero silencer , you just have to get the aero head( a water jacketed head does not cool real well without water).. but this little sucker was rated at 29,000 rpm, I had it in a small pilot ME109 bf...man did that sucker scream.. I estimate approx 120mph, but it was a guess...this was before we had radar guns , come to think of it I dont think cops even had radar back then.. but we could only estimate speed the hard way distant / time.( not super accurate but a reasonable indicator)

to bad the ground jumped up and smacked my plane hard on that fatal low pass all those years ago.....[&o]

the main point is, this wasnt to bad an engine that also came with header + mini pipe for a $150.00 AUD or US value of about $113.00

I don't know how it stacks up against modern engines, but you can still find the K&B 3.5cc rear exhaust engines. I've got one on my Shrike 10. I've also got a NIB spare that's still looking for a ride. I don't recall the exact numbers, but it's turning a 7x8 somewhere between 18 and 19k. And if that's not good enough, there's some boat guys who know how to tweak the timing to get more power out of them. It's the same basic engine that K&B uses on their outboard engine.

You might try an OS 25 vfdf. There are some of these floating around and they don't weigh any more than a lot of 21 size engines. They love apc 7x7 and 7x8 props.

Everytime I hear a PICCO .21 run in a car, there is always that little bit of "wonderment" about how it would do in a plane. They look like a sleeved down and destroked .35, [from a size and weight stand point], and the usefull HP / RPM range would probably only allow you to swing a 1/2A prop, so you would end up with a screaming power plant in a plane that just isn't gonna go anywhere. But I could be wrong, just haven't seen anyone pull it off. Those engines are mighty expensive too, might as well buy a NELSON.

I have a MVVS .21 lying around doing nothing, so I was wondering if I wouldn't throw it into a good fast plane. There will be Gnumpf Cup in Berlin at the beginning of June and I could compete with it there. What kind of prop should I use?? I will be using 5% nitro.

About a month ago I found a site of a guy with a torque and RPM test setup for RC car engines.
He was curves for a lot of the hot .21's.

The engine I aked him about was RATED at 29,000 rpm and 1.5 hp. His estimate based on hotter engines was a probable .7 hp.

The hype and PR gets worse each sales year. [:'(]

A MVVS .3,5cc engine (.21) using 5% nitro, 20% castor oil and minipipe in a small (100-110cm wingspan airplane, pylonracer) at around 1,2-1,5kg will do fine on a 7x5 APC prop...expect speeds around 200-220km/h. Glowplug: Nova Rossi 4-6 or Rossi 4-6.

I only have one MVVS .21, so it isn't exactly a fair test... but I don't think it is going to get anywhere near 220 km/h on a 7x5... no matter what airframe!

I had a clone made to fit the MVVS of the "Irvine angled super silencer" we use in Club 20 racing on the obsolete Irvine .20 racing engines... the MVVS was an absolute DOG compared to my old, worn out Irvine .20.
It only barely made it to 19000 rpm on a 7x6 APC sport... and that was a peak ground setting, not even a flyable needle setting...
My Irvine tops that with over 2000 rpm on an APC WIDE BLADE 7x6 on the same fuel.

New Rossi #5 used for all testing.

The engines noted above are all pretty good. The rossi can really scream.

Jett's smaller engines are the .25 through .40L - these are all OS32 sized. Which, if I recall correctly, still remain about the same mounting and crankcase size as the old K&B 3.5cc. Dimensions for the BSE .30 size engines are on the web site.

On that Beretta, my guess is that a BSE FIRE-35 would be a good choice.

Its a small, quick plane. You can have the engine provided set up for speed - short set nitro pipe - maybe have it high timed too. Maybe utilize the 7.4x7.8 QM40 prop or something similar
