Well started the F-4 build.So far every thing ok. I doubled up the front fire wall and main landing blocks. Added spring air retracts and robart struts.Just recieved my second Jett 90xl well worth the wait.The plane looks sweet it is the camo version.Most likely will add a pull pull for the steering.All I herd was how bad V mar is So far Im glad I bought this kit.Cant wait to finish and fly this plane.

yep .. it's not bad at all. My F-4 is still going strong after 1 year and about 80 flights... it has a slightly different paint scheme to its original camo style these days however..

may i suggest you replace the contol horns with Robart os similar large base horn. Vmars have small base area.
A friends MIG-21 crashed when the elevator horn tore thru the elevator

I will be changing the controll horns,thanks.Can any one tell me if there is down thrust in the engine mounting? I had to make the engine mounts wider to accept the Jett 90. and also having trouble with the muffler hitting the fuselage.Any ideas?Pictures are coming.The plane is avilable at www.richmondrc.com

I think the most important thing to consider is the stability of the plane!
I haven't owned any of these modern jets with glow engines but i have seen an F4 Phantom from Ripmax,be a pain in the a..![:-]
It was very very quick but when you were coming fro landing it would drop the wing.
That's why i won't try any of these.

Hi funflyer, I tried fitting the a jett muffler to my G90, but had the same problem..there are exhaust extensions available from Jett.
As for the down thrust ..I cant help you there..the manual has no reference to it and my G90 fitted into the rails without mods.

hope to fly my vmar f4 this week for the first time, is there anything i should look out for??
I also have the f5 tiger, its still in the box, and the mig 21 is on the way, anybody here ever flew the f5???

oh my gosh ... the F-5 and a Mig-21 ..? that's so cool ... .. please let us know what your impressions are of what they are like to fly and build ...

I must admit I thought that the fixed nose gear on the F-4 could have been better done.... long stalky thing it is ...

Unfortunately my F-4 has had a number of crashes ... one of them being when the firewall separated from the rest of the model .... luckily I was'nt very high, and I managed to get it to belly flop flat on the ground without much damage. Any higher and it would have hit tail first and probably been a write-off. The tail is the heavy end without the motor up front...

good luck with your F-4 ... a great model ..... and 9 lives !

Hi Guys

I have a VMar Phantom fitted with a Pico 60 and purpose made pipe from WestonUk, it flys so well that I am building a second one for a pal of mine this one will have a Webra 80 up front both with retracts, you should never fly a propjet with the wheels hanging down its sacralidge.
I am thinking of a new tail for mine as I use ailivators/tailerons I thought that an all moving tail would not only be more realistic but may enhance control, not that there is any question of control authority with the tail end. at slow speed the ailivators are very effective, I just wondered how effctive they would be if they were on an all moving tail.

Here is pic of my Mig 21 from VMAR. It was tad bit nose heavy on the first flight, but very stable. The flaps make for a very stable landing, keeping the nose down and the speed up. I would suggest going with a .90 2 stroke. My hot OS 61 was marginal on takeoff in the Mig, but after she got up, it was fine. Retracts would make it even better, but would contribute to the weight problem. I am pleased with the Mig, hope the F-4 turns out as well.

Someone took a video of the first flight of Mig, maybe we can get uploaded soon to our club site, and I will point you to it. I do not have the F-4, but one of friends purchased one this weekend down at the Southeast Model Expo in Perry Georgia for $200. I am looking forward to seeing it fly, it sure looks nice. I did replace a little of the hardware in mine, but that was personal preference. It certainly is of a little better quality (the plane) than some of the earlier VMAR kits.

I got a set of the oleo struts for my f4 and im not very pleased with them! The set screws are to small and they will strip if you tighten them to much, i tried to taxi the plane out on the grass runway at our rc club today and as i started down the run way i hit a bad place, looked like a big blob of wild onions,(our field has not been serviced much because of winter) and the front oleo strut twisted on the wire gear and jerked the plane to the right and allmost flipped, luckly i was able to shut her down before absolute desaster happened.
I just got done drilling out the set screws and tapping them for bigger set screws and they seem to lock down tighter and stronger,
I guess we will see what happens.
Anybody here flown the vmar f5 tiger yet???

I have had the oleos from VQ as well, and they are junk. The set screw will not hold and the siccors are so flimsy after about 10 flights the wheels are doing the shimmy like a bad tire on a grocery buggy. One of the weakest things on the VMAR planes seem to be the landing gear. I am flying off of nice smooth asphalt but I noticed my nose gear was raked back and my landing was really smooth.

Being in the Uk I have changed the wire leg to genuine metric piano wire, the soft imperial stuff supplied with the olios is anyones guess what it is but it is not piano wire, your correct in your opinion of the siccors thay are not the best, I will see how long they last before I junk them though.

I replaced the "rivet" at the center of the scissor with a small 2/56 screw and nut. I eventually ended up having to put a small 4-40 screw thru the whole shaft to eliminate the play. Not much for "shock absorpency" but no more play.

I am using spring air retracts with 3/8 struts. For struts I am using Robarts #650 for the mains and front .If the struts come tomorrow I will post some Pics. All so talked to Jett and they had a1/4 spacer for the muffler that should be here by weekend, cant wait.

Make sure you file a flat spot on the gear wire when you put the oleo struts on that will help, and tap out the oleos for bigger set screws.
Have you seen richmond RCs new live chat line on there web site, its great, very informative, i have talked to them on several occassions and they are very helpful.
I think they are doing a great job in improving thier image, i got the f5 tiger last week and it is great, i have it together and ready for the first test flight.
Everything about the model was perfect except just a minor tear it the vcote, i put alittle ca and its fixed, and with the cockpit canopy on you cant see it anyway.
Mig 21 is on the way, (Boy this hobby can get expensive, but its fun)...

Thanks for all the suggestions on the VMar struts, I would have liked to have used Robart but they are just not available in the UK, if you can get them there are no spares available and the struts are just like hens teeth, do not exist.
