So i went to start up my f-20 with an os 40 fx used that i got from fleaBay was listed as "USED OS 46 FX GREAT COMPRESSION, RUNS MINT" so i hit it with the torque starter and 1.2 seconds later liquid rust from the exhaust. So i go and tear it down and, well this is what i find...

Raven:

This is just BS of the highest order. Be sure to show transaction to be bogus on the feedback, the only way to get even a little. E-barf has a complaint system that they tout, but they did and have done nothing for me on a deal something like yours only on a OS 91 VRDF engine silnce December 05. Not as bad as yours, just no compression, add was "bench run only". I will end up buying a piston/sleave and have a better than new engine. Yous appears to be total junk except for the carb, head and case. Their "escrow" service appears to be the only way to go with engines and similar items. Always check feedback. Unfortunately, I gave the guy a bad ratilng as he would not return my money, in retallation, he also gave me a bad rating. With the way E-barf has their rating systems, there is not enough room to fully detail your comlaint. Seems to all be by design to protect bad sellers in my view. We need to start a "Bad e-Bay deals"forum here, maby they will shape up in these areas with enough public heat!!! what you guys think. Afraid RCU will not let us do it, but we can try!!!

That engine has chucked the nickel liner, big time. It was probably run on
synyhetic only oil as well, looking at the rusted rear bearing. You could
buy a nice Magnum .46 for less than it would cost to rebuild that engine.

Contact the seller and demand your money back. []

I think this engine would get you into the air, but you can forget any kind of reliable performance. If I were you, I would wait until you'd get your hands on a good engine. Also consider MVVS or Magnum, they offer great performance for the buck. Almost forgot to mention that your glow plugs are getting damaged by all the corrosion. They don't last long so the flights are getting quite expensive after all.

Always watch out for second hand engines and electronics, it's a gamble each time you buy such an object.

The S.T. will get you in the air. Most of those small engine mounting holes
are about the same, so another engine would drop back in OK, but I .... like

j0rrit....would probably wait for a better engine for the prop jet. The Rossi
40 or 45 is a good bet.

FBD.

I always hate to hear a rip-off story. But it happens.

Follow up with Ebay on it, at least get the feedback posted.

Just as a note of caution to others, its usually worth anticipating that you will have to replace the bearings when ever buying a used engine. If you keep that in mind, at the very least, you will be able to bid and buy accordingly.

That engine looks fine... Geesh you guys are picky!

Sorry about the rip- I much prefer shopping right here on RCU and when I sell an engine I always offer a full refund if the buyer is not happy for ANY reason- karma is too important!

Pay It Forward

I think your best move so far has been posting the pics of the mess; I feel bad for your getting taken. I have had one or two of those deals many years ago, but I must say that I have had superb results here at RCU. Here the site is self policing and there are many educated eyes looking and commenting on the stuff that goes on(sounds redundant but oh well). I'm through with the bidding process at evil bay; After I missed an engine deal, a few months later the same type of engine showed up here for a third less and I got a great deal. If somebody pulls a stunt like what you got stuck with here they get carried out naked.
