Default What was your most overpowered airplane?

I was just thinking about Chuck Auger (RCU Legend) and how he took a Whiplash and ran Rossi DF engines up front... First a 65 then an 81! (hence legend)

Then there is that one guy took a Patriot ARF (40 sized) and put a Jett-90 up front- (My idol)

Then that guy Eric who piloted that twin Jett-50 powered delta looking bad-ass plane! (brave soul)

Some of these combos may not have worked out well, or at all but the point is that someone tried- and hair was on fire as a result! It can be a warbird, trainer, or full on speed ship, if you tried it I wanna hear all about it!
SO...

What is/was your most ridiculously overpowered airplane and how did that work out for ya?

Searching for ridiculous power and speed?

Had to add all kinds of weight in the tail you say?

Pinned, glassed and re-pinned the firewall to accept monster power-plant?

No prop clearance for the big-boy up front?

Mine are not all speed related but..

1. Funtana (46 size) with a ST G-90 2 cy. up front-
2. Top Flite Gold Edition P-51 (60 sized) with a YS-120 (And you know how strong the YS's are...)
3. Funtana-90 with an OS-160FX on board.

Whaddya got Revver Bros?

All you guys with those little Sig Wonders and Shrikes should pop in as it seems the average size engine on a Shrike-10 is a TT Pro-46

funny you should mention chuck auger, he has put some input to a thread of mine on another forum in relation to DF engines..since I still have my whiplash (for now) plans are under way for either a BVM.91 Df or the OS vxdf engine for power...I guess I'm a bit early ..but thats the plan!!! hopefully within a couple of months...I'm getting retrenched at work we finish up on the 30th of June ..so to help with my sorrow of becoming unemployed a small treat of getting myself a DF engine!!!!

yeah I know having no job is not a time to be buying engines...but to do this you have to be a little insane anyway[sm=bananahead.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=bananahead.gif]

Not as eye popping as the combos listed above, but when the Webra .50 first came out, it was rated as the 3rd best power to weight ratio engine in the model plane industry. I think the ranking was done between high volume sales type engines. I put one on an Aerosport .20 and flew it for a few years. That engine has over powered every plane it has ever been on. I'm building a delta for it right now.

Razor:

A Webra 120 in my 40 sized Dago Red looking for fun speed. Sad, not that fast, but flew ok. Retracts stayed in. Bro # 119

my kange f3d. I put a jett 50 with the black pipe for higher rpms. I wouldnt say it was as much overpowered but it was a bi tch to get in. I doubled up the fire wall and installed the engine via radial mount.

Jizamm! Nice work folks---

Jett-50 on the F3D? HAD to be fast--- Airgar had one with a ST-51 (I believe) and it was smokin'

Webra 120 on the 40 Mustang... sounds like something I would do

Only Petec would glow-ify a Zagi, what'd you wrap it with CF or something?

I build a F-20 ( 40) for a friend and we put a OS91 D/f but had to cut off the nose and rebuild for the motor and the mount. Nose was 2" shorter but the long spinner made up for it.

And the winner is (so far) Angel! You crazy, crazy, dude!

Tell us more about that set-up and mods Angel. Did you cut down a 12x12 into a 9.5x12 or something? Carbon fiber in the wings? Retracts?

Also, is the Rifle ever going to be made as an ARC or ARF for those of us who do not have the time or SKILL to build one properly?
Cheers!

I shoehorned a Jett 50 into a Wildhare LR-1 !
doubled up the firewall, made my own motor mount and exaust extention.

Then I thought about mounting a Jetcat P-80 , 18 lbs of thrust, the wet wing- fuel tank would hold about 1.5 minutes of fuel[&:]... and the Rx and ECU would get wet too![:@]

Actually, I used CF tube as a spar. From where it ended to the wingtip the foam was crushed and the ailerons had multiple fractures.

That was two years ago. Al move to South Jersey then got in to choppers............
But I guest I will do another one to show how its done. But his had no retracts,it kill some speed.
The prop was 9 X 11 1/2, All the tail surface was redone 1/64 sandwich by 1/8 balsa. I still have the plans from D -F20.

As for the Rifle I have all the pieces laser cut from AK-Mds . You can have it as ARC or ARF
But its not going to have any hardwear, but the rod for the ali will be installed. And instructions.
I also have a video that I am working on , ( trying to up load here but don't work ) Its about 21mbs
I going to have it on the disc . then try it again.

I will start on the D-F-20 next week and show pic.

I have a Somethin Extra with a Tower 75. Its not that fast but it is powerful. Probally over 100mph. I want to put the 75 on my Patriot if any of you have suggestions let hear it. The 75 is powerful and cheap (89.99). It seems to be a well made engine also. I found no machining particles in mine period, not even one. The problems I see is weight and fuel. The Patrio is nose heavy and the fuel hatch is small.

Buzzing- The 40 or XL Patriot? I have a Tower-75 and it is an awesome engine for the money... Not a speed engine though []

I have flown several Sig SE's even with a K&B-Screamin'48 it seemed like it was gonna explode!

Angel- How much for the ARC or ARF? Just curious...

I think I will bring it down some , to $120 ARC, and $160 for the ARF 2 colors or 1. On my first one its was red on top, middle white at the fus, blue on the bottom. I can change it if you to.

Angel- How long does it take you to build one into ARF form?

Can you set it up for retracts?
