A new toy..
Well, I bought this engine....like I need another engine. But the price was right, and I didn't have one. Man, I sound like a woman at a dress sale!

Hey ChuckAuger,
Thanks for posting the photo. I'm wondering how long the prop shaft is on that engine. Does it have a removable shaft like the Jett's? Do you think an APC D-1 prop with the thick hub will fit on that shaft?

No, not even...
No removeable shaft...
It is even shorter I think than the shaft on the VRDF...
To run these engines, you really kinda need a lathe (or a buddy with a lathe..)
But I run D1 hub APC CF props on the VRDF...the fan adapter nut is like a Tru Turn spinner adapter nut that goes all the way thru the prop...If you recall I asked you if you were prepared for this type of set back when you were inquiring about the VXDF. These things don't really lend themselves to prop operations without a lathe.
'48 model Atlas 6" converted to a modern tool holder system keeps my machining tasks in line...

I've got a machinist friend....
I was definately planning on having my friend who is a machinist make me some adapters for the engine. Do you think there might be a need for some of these? My friend has a side business making machined parts for R/C applications.
He makes great spinnernuts for the combat crowd - and especially for those that are getting into the SSC or "Nerf" combat. They use Magnum .15's that use a 5mm propshaft, so they need a spinnernut that can fit that propshaft. I've got one of his 1/4-28's spinnernuts on my Jett - its polished aluminum, and looks just great. All his spinnernuts are designed to fit the pink Sullivan starter cone like a glove.
Anybody that's interested in having parts or special projects done by this guy should email me, and I'll get you his name and email address. He's a full time machinist for a well known R/C products company.
Hope you will keep us all informed about that VX-DF when you get it set up.

I'll post a pic..
I can't imagine much of a market for the DF to prop adapter..I'm leaving town in a few minutes, but I'll post a pic of what this thing looks like. Just picture a Tru-Turn adapter with the nut setting down inside the ID of the washer. Now instead of the nut being flush with the backside of the washer, it extends about .500" past the rear face, thru the prop, to within about .05" of the drive washer. Then you have to drill the prop out this size (I think I used .400" but not sure...) and when you put it all together, the nut goes thru the prop hub and the washer is captured on the nut. Like a sex bolt with a washer on it, basically.
