RE: Radar gun
This is the one that pylon racers in the US have found to work the best. Many of the cheaper ones are hard to get an accurate reading, or a reading at all.

RE: Radar gun
The stalker is an excellent radar gun. Check out this video..it catches every pass at 280-300mph.

I have the Prospeed which is much less expensive, but we noticed that it has a hard time picking up passes over 250mph. On smaller planes, it has a hard time clocking them at over 200mph.

RE: Radar gun
You can either be frustrated with missed or no readings, or buy the gun that actually works. The last thing I want to do is stand in the middle of the field with a cheap gun while another guys dives at me at 170 mph just to see how fast it is.

RE: Radar gun
Daven,
How far can you be from a Q-40 and still get a reading with a Stalker?
Does the Stalker Sport work well for airplanes?? it's on ebay for $500

RE: Radar gun
100 feet easily, normally closer to 200 feet.
The cheap guns make you feel completely unsafe trying to get a reading. I will say that I would still like to be further away, but the Stalker Pro is about the cheapest gun that I'll hold trying to get a reading.

I hear you Daven,
I owned the cheapy Bushnell Speedster and you had to be 20-30 feet away (i.e. in the middle of the runway during a low high-speed pass) to get a reading. But it was an $80 gun and it did clock my Diamond Dust at 123 MPH.
What speeds are you seeing on your Q-40s??
