Default Mach Racer for $59.....is it worth it?

Ok, I got the latest Holiday sale from Hobby People yesterday, and the Modeltech Mach Racer is going for $69 in celebration of the 4th. I also get another $10 off if I wish to remain on their mailing list.

Whaddya think? Is it worth $59? I will have an extra ST 45 looking for a home (from my F3D) Of those that are flying these.....how they holding up? Any comments/experience would be appreciated.....

Thanks

Gary

What else can you buy for $59?

Sounds like fun to me.

Gary- Easy for us to tell you how to spend your cash I suppose but I bet that thing would be fun. Dave has one and I was checking it out, it is pretty light and seems to be decent quality, for that price heck...

Your ST-45 runs strong as I recall, although it was in a tiny airplane tho- [X(]

You woulda got a kick out of Buddudes F3D with the Jett-50 up front.

Let us k now what you decide and when you hit the 117 degree lakebed-

Okay Tom tell us your proposed set-ups for those babies...

I have more engines than airplanes with a Enya-50SS, K&B-48, and soon Rossi-53 none with a ride!

Well James, I have a Webra 50 on the F-20. A Jett 40 Quickie slated for the Shrike. I suppose the Sonic 500 will see a Magnum 46 hanging on the nose.

I picked one up last week before the sale and I like it , they tend to bounce on landing
and they have to land at a pretty fast speed . also they can be a handfull in the wind.

I have a GMS 47 in mine i use both a 9x8 and 10x6 prop its pretty fast on either one
and great vertical with the 10x6.

ira- Howdy neighbor... You should hit the next Revvers get together since it is so close to you! I bet if you move your CG back a bit it'll slow up for landing, sounds like you are landing soo fast that she tries to "take-off" with every little bounce... just a thought

Why not leave the l/g off and use a c/f or graphite skid plate and belly land? More streamlined, lighter, and Keeps the bouncing down.. Is there any carbon fiber included in the kit like a main spar or anything?

KMOT- Good engines to choose from ... Have you considered using the Jett in the Sonic, it is a better match and you can use those <9 inch props. Besides the Shrike is draggy and you might end up putting a 9x6 or something on the Jett for hand launching, it'd be a waste...

Just a thought!

Cheers

Razor-what do you suggest for the Shrike if I used the Jett for the Sonic? The Magnum .46?

Geesh, Tom! That is what I figured... You know Flyboy Dave has a gun safe full of engines (I heard) I see a few Mangum boxes there... Maybe I should give them another try you know in the 80's they were garbage! The Mag-52XLS is a sweet runner except for the midrange apparently, although what Revver needs or gives a crap about midrange right?

I see a Pegasus there also, whaddya gonna build for that?

take care-

Pegasus? I was thinking a big scale Cessna someday. I got that in trade from OS for a used FF-240. Now I have the FF-320. More power, argh argh argh!!

I should put my engines in my gun safe as well. But Maxx gets claustrophobic in there.

Hi Razor

I flew the mach racer again today i found by adjusting the landing gear so it sets as
level as possible on the ground it lands a lot better, also i installed a smaller nose
wheel.

I also found if you hold elevator and keep the nose a tad high to bleed of speed it
lands great. i may be able to make the oct get togather just have to wait and see.

Sounds like I need to pick one up. Hopefully they'll have one left tomorrow. (was out of town) Hard to beat the price.

Yeah James, that ST 45 runs sweet. I don't know if the Mach Racer could handle a Jett 50. I know the "Panty Bandit" couldn't!

I bought one as a scratch and dent. Typical arf with hot glue joints. none of my control rods were the correct length. Dog ears around engine were loose. Firewall had no glue to see. Fuel tank leaked from the onset. epoxy and the right parts and a used os46fs. Half throttle take off from my hand. gets testy above 10 to12 mph wind. I cut power off and hold the stick full back at 200 ft off. Lands like a Wonder. Kick in the pants to fly. The ugly colors stick out well.Couldn't say how fast but it out runs any thing on our field with an 11x7 (the only prop I had!!!!) Estimates from the locals say 120 plus. going for a smaller prop for giggles.

11x7 is HUGE for a 46SF- I would run a 9x7 at least, maybe 9x8
