Default DOPPLER SPEED PROGRAM

I have read various post about this download but all are several years old and the reference websites seem to be gone. Does anyone have new info on this speed determining method that they would like to share?

I know some fast electric boat guys who use it. I will see if I can get the info and reply back later.

Oh wait, the boat guys count on the noise from the prop hitting the water I think. That measures the rpm and then they calculate the speed.

the boat guys measure the doppler shift of the sound of the prop hitting the water, so i's RPM and speed.

There was a thread in this forum about this in the last couple of months. It should not be too hard to find. I did download it and it seems fairly accurate however some recordings did not work well. It is in German but isn't too hard to figure out.

EDIT -- I found the thread and the link is still active. One of my post also has a link that will translate to english.

Okay, I got the info from a friend in Germany:

Re: Doppler method for measuring speed?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tom a good FFT program called "gram" can be downloaded from http://www.visualizationsoftware.com/gram.html

Here is a description of how the speed is calculate from the doppler jump in the sound spectrum: http://mfv-bb.de/input/speed.htm

It's in german, I could'nt find a description in english.

I don't think it will work well for boats, as the effect is only giving good results, when the object passes the microphone very close.

I used the same programm to measure the prop rpm, this worked pretty well.
