Default patriot is done!!!!! questions about flying it.

well after about 60 hours of off and on time from november my patriot is done. taxied it around this afternoon. anyone ever run a ys45 in the patriot. that is what i am using. should move it nicely. i ended up painting the fuse. too many contours. did not have the patience for it. i used topflight lustre cote jet white. matched the wings perfectly. now hopefully the paint holds up to the glow fuel. i was surprised on how well the paint looks. can barely tell it was painted.
now hoppefully the weather gets warmer!!

PS, how does the patriot handle in flight? landing? does it tip stall easy. do you have to land it fast?

Default Hmm..

Lets see some pics!

Many have used the YS-45 and it is a great choice-

The Patriot has great flight characteristics, it has a wide envelope... The generous wing makes a tip-stall predictable, but you would/should rarely see that (You want speed right?)

Keep up some speed on landing and remember to use the throttle to control altitude...

Did you glass the wing center?

Keep us posted,
james

Well I have the DC F20 which handles similar to the Patriot. I have two friends with the Patriot and YS 45. With its high wing loading, its a mover not a floater. I always land with some throttle on until right before touchdown.

Default Flying the Patriot

Good combination, the Patriot and the YS 45. The Patriot was the only plane I flew and landed so much that I wore the threads off the tires! Basically flying goes something like this...Take off fast, point where you want it to go, you are there, turn and point it somewhere else, you are there, turn and point..... Do you see a pattern emerging here. Yank and bank, it covers alot of territory quickly. Have fun with it, land with power, control your decent with rpm's.. BTW, get a lock nut on your prop and put it on TIGHT. My YS 45 sure can kick a prop when it wants to. Andy Levy

Get it up high and try slow flight.
Great plane for high speed low passes.

Great plane, its fast...its very responsive.

I warn you that you be careful when you do your low high speed fly by.
Especially when there are models near by. It can get you distracted with little time to escape since its FAST. Im in the process of buiding my back up kit due to this reason.
