Default Air Retracts for a Patriot 40?

I built my Patty with the Wire gear (no retracts). I want to get more speed out of it and was thinking I might go ahead and install retracts. HOWEVER, I was thinking Air retracts might be better in a retrofit. What do you guys recommend?

I have used both mechanicals and Spring-Air (605's I think?)

What engine you runnin? Cuz you may get a little MPH from retracts but there are better and easier ways to get SPeed-

Engine is a Jett 50 Sport. It's fast but I was thinkingthe Retracts would help. I looked at all the stuff that would be needed and I am not to sure if it would be very cost effective. Meaning forthe cost of the retracts I could just move the engine to a faster style plane.

Ken, this used to be cost effective[] (aroud 75$ for the lot)

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LX7110&P=RF

no longer sold through TH

if you can contact the "maker" of these retracts (have his name/ phone in another comp) he will send you some > he's a VERY nice guy, has NO website just a phone

maybe someone here can chip in with the phone no.

he also makes mechanical retracts (trike) for 49$ or so.... have a set in my Patriot

Retrofit using air retracts is indeed the way to go.

It is easy to route the lines. Mounting plywood gear plates in the wings is not difficult. And in the worst case, you could add main gear retracts, and leave the nosegear fixed.

I think the Spring Air's I have used were 605's (?) and they were by FAR the preferred method... My current mechanicals jiggle like crazy and are not as sturdy as the AIR units, so bending after my "typical" landing may be necessary---

No air or not enough air and they go DOWN , no drained RX pack from a servo twitching, enough air (50lbs) for 7-8 solid cycles-

Ah yes, B&D retracts, "Broken & Damaged" :P never had any luck with B&D and their plastic components. Spring air's might be a little more money but I never had a gear up landing with spring air's either. And that is worth the extra money in the end.
Just my 2 cents
