Default RE: Patriot .40 Build

It's looking a little like a wing, now. The fun part is next : The retracts. I was able to salvage the Spring Air's off "Old Grey", and they still seem to work. I'm even going to use the same wheels and all My goal is to try to keep everything inside the plane to reduce drag. I need all the help I can get to keep up with the Diamond Dust...

This part's always a little slow. One thing's for sure, I'm not gonna use a spray can cap as a wheel well (not that there's anything wrong with that )...I've always had better luck making a balsa wheel well...

How about the Jett .60 (what is it, the XL? )
It's a .60 in a .40 size case...
That would fit nicely w/o any fuse. mods, and wouldn't be too heavy.

OK, a Jett .60LX sounds good. Probably better than sticking this on there...

Great thread SmokinT. I've got one of these kits stashed under my bench as well. Just need to find the time to get started on it.

I'll be watching your progress, but at the rate your moving I doubt it will take you 3yrs to complete.

Smokin- Pics are worth a thousand words man! Awesome...

The Jett-60LX appears to be the engine to beat for these applications. I have flown Patriot's with Jett-50's, YS-45's (piped), Webra-50's and others (no 60LX, yet!) and all were great performers. The YS-45 if set-up properly gets fairly close to the Jett-50 (not quite there though), but with the huge pipe, the expense, difficulty finding parts etc. I would go Jett-50 or 60LX. Bolt and go!

Wonder what a Rossi-65DF or OPS-60 would do on a Patriot? Hmmm...

Thanks Razor...I have a pair of SJ .46's for that Duellist (I've only been working on it for 4 years) but I've never ran them. In fact, I've never seen a Jett run at all. I'm counting on y'alls recommendations. Do you think a SJ .60LX on this Patriot can take my friend's Diamon Dust? I guess we'll have to see...

Now to get that Spring Air retract to fit...

Now let's get that bottom center sheeting on. Just put it into position and mark with a pencil where it needs to be cut. Then cut it using a straightedge. Better to cut a little big and carefully sand for that perfect fit...

Hi angel...You mean the ducted fan engine? I've seen the pictures of the guy with the Jett 90 on his 40 size Patriot, I wonder how it flew?

But before you glue that sheeting, you got to figure out how to cut the hole for that retract to get thru...

I was only half joking about the O.S. 91
Have you seen the Patriot w/ the Jett .90? The guy who built it has been here on RCU, but not in awhile...

JMO...the Jett .60LX would probably be a darn good race, and maybe beat the DD, but the Pat is a lot more airframe to pull around.

Let's see what Bob and a few others have to say about that?

Razor's got quite a bit of Pat experience, and I built one several years back, but sold it fairly soon after when I got an offer I couldn't refuse, so I don't really know if the 60LX would whup up on a DD w/ a Webra (looks like a .50? )
Mine had an MVVS .49 rear exh. w/ the pipe running along the top of the fuse. under a custom made 'glass canopy/turtledeck.

I made a template out of posterboard. Now to glue the sheeting on. I use anything but CA where you might have to sand it, so white/yellow/aliphatic at the front and back edge and CA on the ribs...

put the sheet on but not glued mark the 4 hole , once you have the 4 holes
marked. flip the sheet over and line up templets to the 4 holes and cut out
fore the landing gears. Once you do that ,flip it back over and glue it in place.
the landing will fit right in.

Yea baby yea..........c'mon put that bad boy in. (OS D/F)

Man I'am slow in typing........you allready the bottom sheet in.
