You might want to consider a Jett or Ultrathrust tuned mufflers for ease with similar performance.

The guys at Weston will definately have what you need. Full length two piece or one piece mini pipes. They also ship worldwide.

The OS 50 SX is the last engine you should put a tuned pipe on. The piston will deform in a short period of time when over stressed. Just a heads up.

My OS 50sx piston went south too, the center slumped and cracked (years ago). Don't over prop, over rev or lean this engine at all, heat will kill it, not a forgiving motor. It's a ok sport motor but it's the last thing I'd put in a quickie. If it's running fine in somthing else, don't muck with it.

I ran the piss out of my OS-50SX on a Tower muffler--- On a 9x8 it was right there with my Webra-50GT.

This engine is not the last thing I'd put on a QUickee, in fact I think it'd be a great choice!

Just my .02

A tower muffler is not a tuned muffler. Put a tuned muffler or tuned pipe on your 50 SX and see how long it last.

I've ran a os50sx with jett tuned muffler turning 17k plus on ground in a chaos, a phoenix F20, and now a quickie sonic 500.....this is the same engine in all 3 planes still going strong.............How long it will last I don't know (who knows for sure how long any engine will last pushing it to its limits)....but I do know it puts the haul azz on for the money spent......I say go for it......just tune it about 400-600rpms less then peak rpm and you should be good.............mlitt12345

The 50SX is a good sport engine and should be run like one. Ive seen three engines that were pushed hard and started loosing power. After disassembly all the parts except the piston were in excellent condition. All three had the same problem with the piston,ie, the center of the piston was sunken like a bowl. Abuse, lean runs, who knows? I just think your headed for problems with a tuned pipe. Good luck.

I don't think high rpm is a problem really... I had a full throttle "shaft run" on the 50 SX Hyper in my heli a few weeks back (it still had the cooling fan on though). It was screaming like a pig... I really expected it to blow up at any given moment.
But it didn't, and after disassembly, inspection and a test run on a 8.8x9 prop it was fit for service again.

I have to admit that it was still running very rich though, so that may have prevented a thermal runaway.

At 2000 rpm headspeed my 50 SX is running exactly 17000 rpm.

Perhaps the piston top doesn't like heat, but in my experience rpm is not a problem.

My 50 was one of the first sold. Could be they changed the metallurgy of the pistons in later units. Miitt may have a winner. Once I've been burned I don't go back.

I've seen a couple of OS .50 SXs on full length pipes. They put out lots of power and ran reliably. We tached one at 14,300 rpm with a 12.25 x 3.75 prop on 15% nitro.

If you let any high performance engine with a tuned pipe run lean at WOT for any significant length of time, it will be severely damaged. I would suggest any OS .50 SX with a melted piston was subjected to such a lean run.

Razor, When is the last time you put a straight edge on the top of your OS 50sx piston? Ever try a tuned pipe on that 50sx?
