Formula for fast cheap plane
this is the recipe, I tested it, The little ******* flies behind turbine jets, buy a "hobby poeple.net" texan, the small one I think the price is $90 incredible but true. Its originally designed for a .15 to .25 but because the texan has a wide fuselage you can fit in a .40 easily. thenk of course put in a 40 size engine, I has a os. 40 fx. Its going to be a little nose heavy so make sure everything goes as far back as possible. and there you have it.
man if you fly this youll be impressed. the prop should be a 9x7. by the way no one near south florida please, mine is already the show stopper.

Lots of things fly behind turbine jets, even kadet's, Gentle Lady gliders, hell, a paper airplane will fly behind a turbine jet Fast is something that will stay ahead of turbine jets (assuming you're talking a fast turbine jet too hehehe)

I would also consider trying a hot high revving .25 Not a sport engine but something from a race breed. The 46FX is a good engine but you would get more out of a hot .25 I think. The more rpm's and pitch you can get the faster it will go.
I love the Texan always thought it was a good looking plane too.

I'll bet that plane moves along pretty good. Instead of guessing about a planes' speed, it doesn't take much effort to find out how fast it really is going. All it takes is 2 helpers with cell phones, a stop watch and whatever fixed distance you choose. I use a 1/16th of a mile timing zone. The repeated clockings are fairly consistant with the mathematical guess work....there haven't been any "miracle runs" clocked so far by us.

I would say the cheapest way to get speed would be a predator or viper with a tower hobbies .46 on it. To go faster, design a cowling to smooth the airflow over and around the engine.

Tim, I ran your passes through Spectroscope and the WaveOSScope and the top speed that they both agree on was 139 mph or 223.7 kph.
Pretty fast for 22 bucks.

Convince me anyone is doing 250mph with one of these, versus claiming they are doing 250. They might be heckfire fast, but 250 I think not.

You're not adding in the 30mph tailwind or the 1000ft dive first...

yeah I've always noticed the planes that are claimed to be 200+ are lucky of they hit a buck fifty through the trap, seams a few folks eyeballs are out of calibration i couldn't help but laugh when i made a low pass and heard someone comment about my Byron F-16 once saying "an easy 200 mph".......... even with the OS91VR it was lucky to hit 140 in a dive.
