The wings were fitted and epoxied today. 30 min with milled glass fibre. Sanded with care to get the fit to the wings to the spars to align with the fuse.Sanded prime of mating surfaces for good bond. Dremel tool put some crosshatching in on the spars to hold the epoxie. Still waiting for my pipe. servo hatches are done. Radio hatch requires a swith-charge jack mouniting hole and the deans antenna hole needs to be drilled. Once the pipe is fitted and battery installed. CG will be checked then off to paint.

Would it be possible to get a picture straight on to see the wing thickness? Has anyone calculated the % wing thickness?

Mike,

I believe the Oakdale website says it's a 5.5% ailfoil. Russ said the wing root thickness is 1.2" with a chord of 22.25".

That calculates out to 5.4%.

I just started smoothing the fillets at the base of the fins. Next the fillets on the servo hatches. Headder and pipe will be here Monday. Once the pipe support is placed I will be ready for paint. Also I cut the hole for the switch-charge-jack in the radio hatch.

I must have got lucky doing my fins while the epoxy/microballoons was still wet I just ran my finger along it and it came out smooth as could be. I haven't got anything else done I'll get to it this weekend I've been spending to much time on my helis this week to get any airplane building done. I hope my cowl comes out as nice as yours I'm on hold on that though until Dub sends me an engine.

Painted the Phenom. Note this is the base coat.

Final colors will have an anodized aluminum look.

Wing joint is sanded servos are installed and the pushrod covers are glued on. I used goop to glue on the covers and the mounting blocks for the covers. The pushrods are 4-40 rods inside a carbon tube, ball link on servo end and steel clevis at the elevon hooked to HS5625s. This has been a very simple build I haven't spent much time on it at all just a little here and there when I get a chance everything fit exactly like it is suppose too.

The 91 D/F sounds great, but I think you will need to add tail wieght. Do a trial balance with the plane dryfit assembled. You could cut a hatch between the fins to place your battery back there. to avoid adding useless weight.

What Size are the Jetts and Rossi?

I think the plastic internal engine rails go back to the 1st former across the fuse.

Email Russ at Oakdale and ask him.

Thanks for the pics Corey! That makes things very clear. It is going to be nearly impossible to shoehorn a big RIRE engine into that plane (in a graceful way)

This thing is clearly designed around 40 size power plants. I'm going with either one of Dub's practice F3D engines, or with an OS 46 VXDF. Leaning towards the VXDF at the moment... I would like to have a throttle on a hand launching delta.
