RE: Fastest Engine
That was impressive. In the real old days, when we had a bad day at the field, we would say, "I'm going to buy a boat". Now I know what they really meant.

Well guys heres a little water vid during some testing. The wind wouldnt let up, making the water a little too choppy for my liking.

Holy cow, that is impressive! I like the fact that you need a launch brace and you that need to keep the speed up for floatation. It shows that you are pushing the envelope by minimising displacement to a bare minimum. I agree that pond is not big enough to do your boat justice. What prop pitch and diameter are you using in the video?

Were rooting for ya!
I don't think you'll need much help if you can keep it floating

Have you had a chance to really open it up yet?

RE: Fastest Engine
Congrats thats quite an accomplishment.
I'm not into boats, but I think your setup can even go faster. Keep playing with props, I think you have more on the table.
Nice job.

RE: Fastest Engine
Great job Hooty ! Sorry I came in on this thread so late
I guess I am going to have to get out of the top speed contest. I can't compete against a Jett [&o]
I saw this boat in person and it is definitely not reaching top speed.
I thought the pond was perfect, but the "Hooty Rocket" needs even more room to reach its potential.
The boat is well engineered and balanced at high speed and did not flip once.
The speed is a testament to Hooty's research and design.
That motor did not hurt either.
Maybe I need a Stingray redesign (sorry guys - inside joke)

RE: Fastest Engine
Sure Bob. I will risk the "off topic" flames since you asked for them
These are Hooty's boats and a few others. BTW Impressive motors Bob [8D]
Here is my tribute video for Hooty.
The Hooty Rocket isn't in this video, but still a blast to see a boat with double the designed displacement haulin' the mail with more to spare.

RE: Fastest Engine
Thanks for sharing. You said in the video that you had to "adjust the wing down, it's way too high." Are you talking about the elevator adjustment? What do you look for during a run to you tell when the elevator is adjusted correctly? I was also wondering, have you ever rolled or lifted a pontoon in a high speed turn? Have you ever held full throttle for more than two seconds on a run? Brad seemed to notice your boats stability as he mentioned that it didn't flip even once. Are the other racers redesigning their boats yet?

From what I can tell you never really got on the pipe. Not saying you aren't going like yesterday's stink but I think there is a whole nuther gear in that thing when you hit the higher rpms.
It's very cool

Yeah, it sounds like an aircraft starting a takeoff roll, then backing off just as it starts to bite. More room! Stay on the throttle! More rpm! Easy to say, harder to do, I know!
Man that thing goes like boiled snot. What prop are you using, dunno if that info is buried somewhere in the last 9 pages..
I just impulse bought my first real RC boat, a Sprint Cat c/w OPS .45.. shame the ponds are all frozen now. Sigh. Something to fool with when the temp and sun cooperates but the air doesn't. Got a big municipal lake about 10 minutes from here with permission to do stuff like this at the far end. As a lifelong airplane guy it might be a struggle to come to grips with starting a .45 with a 1.5" prop..
