The price is right, but I hope it's a junk engine in there, I had a Sig Kadet that went that fast, well maybe almost as fast. Get it out there with a speed nut engine guy, so you can show some speed.

Good! This may fill the gap left by Whiplash's slow return/cost . Diamond Dust and Outlaw not to be found as well. What I would like to see in the video are high speed turns or "hitting the wall", a hard change of direction. One of three things will happen (1) It turns, hopefully. (2) It high speed stalls in to the ground (3) It blows up!
The guy's around this site will cram a speed motor in one and find out right quick!
PS The color is too drab and hard to see. I try to use hot colors on top and black on the bottom..... Or we can paint them ourselves.

RE: Oakdale Aircraft Phenom
The engine in there is an OS 40FX. That's all I had on hand to get the prototype in the air. But it was designed to take the 46VRDF engines on up to 60 size.
As for the color scheme, the kit comes with a grey gel coat. It's ready to paint to your specs. I'm also working on pre-painted, high vis color schemes. Be on the lookout fot those.
As for your request on some high speed turns, I'll work on that. I'll make sure it's on video too just in case we get a #3. Although that would suck, it would be very cool to watch!

Hey... looks nice.
Always good to have another fun toy to consider
at 600 sqs..... 90LX is not out of the question.... but it should be quick with just about any engine.
(just wondering out loud here if the F-14 might lend itself to a prop-driven conversion....... hmmmmm )

Need more pictures ...
Let see a picture with thw cowl off.
A picture of the bottom
Can you show pictures of wing to fuse mounting/attachment/spars?
Is that the fuel tank under the cowl? (2nd pic rear view)
How would a Jett 60LX -FIRE & tuned pipe fit with tthe fuel tank in the way???
The picture shows a seam between wing a and fuse... do the wings bolt or glue on???
bob
Possibly a home for my NIB JETT FIRE 60LX

RE: Oakdale Aircraft Phenom
Crazy,
Here's a couple picts with the cowl off and of the wing attachment.
The tank sits on a ply mount for side exhaust engines, however for rear exhaust, it can be removed to lower the tank. The servo can also be mounted lower if needed.
The wings are mounted using two full length spars that glue into tight slots in the wings and then to the pre-installed formers. The spars are single piece and run through the fuselage.
The surface is ready to paint. No primer/filler/etc... is necessary. You should wash it to remove any remnant wax from the molding process, and then skuff it with some fine grit paper, but then you're ready to go. The gray surface coat works as a nice base to start with.

All I can say is... WOW! The SKY has opened up... After several Delta promises from other folks, you have obviously come through for us
That thing looks killer- Kudos to you for getting us another Delta to play with! Seems like folks on here are being kind of hard on the aircraft-
It actually is moving pretty well with the OS-40FX, and I know the difference between a Jett-50 or West-50 and an OS-40FX
Molded fiberglass Fuselage
Vacuum bagged molded Wings and Fins.
Pre-installed formers
Molded Motor/tank fairing and pushrod fairings.
Hardware package:
-Heavy duty hinge points
-Carbon fiber control horns
-Motor fairing mounting hardware
-Pushrod fairing hardware
-Servo mounting screws
-Fuel tank tray with hardware
-Complete instruction manual.
EVERYTHING on this list sounds awesome! CF horns?
I dunno but I am pretty taken with this thing... Fiber-Glass fuse, fairings for the engine and push-rods... It seems to be as complete as the Whip which means little time between box and air!
Thanks for giving us a new toy! I am definitely going to get one of these but it might be X-Mas time as I just started a new job, and I have a Rifle in the oven.
Good luck and keep us posted!

RE: Oakdale Aircraft Phenom
Thanks for the kind words Razor.
The proto was run with an OS40 to see what the minimum performance would be. Not everyone has a Jett 50, but I'm willing to be most guys have at least an OS40 laying around, and they could start from there. Even with that, it's fast, but at least you know what the baseline is.
As for a X-mas present to yourself, just let me know. I'll have one waiting when you're ready.
In regards to folks being hard on the aircraft, I say let's hear it all. The more input people have on designs, the better they become and the happier everyone is.

For those perhaps considering jett sj-50, 60LX power or similar, a bubble-jett tank is going to be an absolute must here. Maybe try to fit the 10oz in there ?

I looks like it would be nose heavy. Did yours require weight added to the tail?
What was the mt (no fuel) flying weight with the 40FX?
A 5.5% wing would be thin around where the servos mount. What kind of servo did you get to fit?

RE: Oakdale Aircraft Phenom
Thats a nice plane. It really is moving along well with that engine I would imagine it will scream with a hot one. Not to bash, but heres just a small design mod that I think should be made. The cowling should continue all the way back to the tail and down to a point, that would reduce massive amounts of drag. But overll that is a great looking plane and looks like it will really perform thanks for all the hard work.

-Bob:
Do you have the specs on the 10oz tank? I can check the fit.
-fooddlyer:
The cowling could extend all the way back, but then that wouldn't work out for the really hot engines with rear exhaust. It probably could be a separate cowl for side exhaust engines that streamlines it a little more. I'll add it to the list. Thanks

I hope my comments where not taken as a bash, I'd buy one if I didn't just go on a ARF buying spree. I had thought about doing something like this, but if you change a hobby into a business you don't have a hobby anymore[&o] These seem well thought out, they should ship in a small box, they look well made, and are reasonable priced, two thumbs up![sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

If you want to impress me, then consider some of the "mods" some of these guys may be suggesting. I wouldn't buy this as it sits right now but it has promise. We have enough planes on the market that were "stuck" with. Design this thing in a way to accomodate the owners. First off, the fuel tank has to go. Looks like it's designed specifically for a Dubro Tank. I also like the idea of a bit longer shroud.
If it will be setup up for a Rear exhaust, looks like a total redesign with the shroud and tank

Tough crowd... This thing appears to be a Bentley compared to the Whip (which I love personally)
A molded delta with a cowled engine compartment? That is more forward-thinking than most... My wife has conceded to buying me one fort X-Mas

RE: Oakdale Aircraft Phenom
No worries Rick. Like I said, with that engine, that's what you can expect as a baseline. It can only get better!
Thanks for the comments Cyclic. Actually, this is designed for a rear exhaust. That's why the cowl doesn't extend all the way back. You'd end up cutting most of it away anyhow. The tank sits much lower so a straight header pipe can come off the engine to the pipe. The pipe actually blends into the rear of the cowl to really make it streamline.
Thanks for all the comments guys! Keep 'em coming!

http://www.jettengineering.com/accy/tank.html
there are two versions of the 8oz tank - from the photos I think the short might fit the pocket better. The 12 is just a bit larger.
8 Short
D= 2.25 L=4.25 OL=5.00
12 Short
D= 2.63 L= 4.75 OL= 5.50
Installation would look something like this (although this is a 6oz in this DD). SJ60LX with a straight header. In this case, the pipe didnt clear the tank properly, and the exhaust adapater was machined to provide an upward kick to the pipe.
Thanks for taking a look at this.

What's the retail on one of these things?
Are those wing spars plywood? If so, perhaps some CF or GF sheet spars would be more appropriate for the real high power setups... just a suggestion. Easy enough to do yourself, but also easy enough to do by the kitter.
I think I want one... A .60 or .80 size "fan" engine should make that thing move out pretty good.

Thanks for the spec Bob. The 8 short should fit fine.
-Rudeboy
The spars are ply. There are two of them in there which provides some unreal strength. Although with an 80 size fan engine, you might want to up them to CF. The 80 would get it moving just a bit faster than the .40FX . Don't blink!
