Default Fast plane for a TT Pro .36

Can anybody recommend a simple to construct, high-speed sport plane for a Thunder Tiger Pro .36? I've currently have it installed on a Gremlin and the engine is turning about 20k on an 8x7 prop but the Gremlin is prone to surface flutter(I got it at a garage sale).

Any recommendations appreciated!

Kit or ARF? The .36 is the hot rod engine for a .25 model and falls a little short on the .40 size models. You could build a Scat Cat rather light and inexpensively, or see if this ACE is still around.

I look for .25 models on a regular basis, hard to come by.

As a last resort, this is a heavy ARF - but with slim pickings, what can you do but lower your expectations? https://www.ebay.com/itm/29539943779...Bk9SR96Ez8_CYQ

The World Models had an airplane called a Wingman II. It's a baby brother to the Sky Raider Mk II, at about 80% smaller in size. An internet search shows it out of stock, but if you could locate one, it would be a good match. It was primarily an electric airplane, but can be easily converted to glow. The larger Sky Raider Mk II would do about 90 mph on a Thunder Tigre Pro 40. I think the Wingman II on the TT 36 could do over 100 mph.

I looked for a .20 to .25 sized P51 Mustang kit with no luck
I looked for a Diamond Dust Delta kit with no luck
Here is a Shrike.......Lanier Shrike 40 Short Kit RC Airplane Kit | eBay
Your engine with a 9 x 7 or 8 x 8 prop should be lots of fun.

It would be really easy to build up a slightly smaller Q500. Maybe 400 square inches. Foam cores, $40 worth of wood and a few micro servos. Make it V tail without rudder and landing gear and no more then 3 lbs. Could be 150mph capable.

I like this suggestion, if you are a builder? You could build a 75% Quickie with a 36" wingspan. My guess would be around 135 mph?

Well, I went to the Swap Meet held by the Kansas City Radio Control club this morning. Came across an older arf from a company called Super Kraft. The model is a small-ish version of an F3D pylon racer. The Pro .36 is a drop-in fit. I think this will get past 130 mph without too much trouble. I will report back when I get to it in the early Spring. It's called the F3D-30.

I found that the .36 responded quite well to raising the exhaust port height .025 and the use of 1/4 wave pipe. I got a noticeable power increase with the one in this heli. Much needed as the heli tipped the scales at 5.5 lbs.

I don't have a quarter wave pipe but I have a header and several tuned pipes to try. I'll see how it balances.

Sounds intriguing, but if I had a Diamond Dust, I'd put a pipe-equipped Como .40 on it and really go fast. Don't know where to get one though.

Appreciate the reply. Your price is fine but I just bought another plane so my budget won't allow me to get another plane at this time. Thanks for the offer however!

If you are a builder, Matney models makes a few Q-40 planes that will suit your engine. Just build the wing lighter. It should end up a 4 pound plane and 400 square inches. A throttled engine should let it slow to land. Ken Fluney has done a few with Nelson SS Quickee engines with a carb and they fly really well and are very fast.

I just looked at Matney’s site and remembered the EF1 models he sells. Perfect for your engine. Just beef up the firewall. There were some folks running piped 25 on a Proud Bird ARF a few years ago.

Hope this helps
