I got the free snare drum sound option with my Mach Racer too....[X(]

At first I flew it around at half throttle because I didn't know if the thing was going to blow-up,
or what....then finally after a couple flights I just threw caution to the wind and opened it up....
it flew fine. In fact I thought it was going to be squirrley, but it flys like a trainer in the turns....
very stable.

How many RPM's are you getting out of that Magnum ? If you have the usual 10-6 APC on it
your going nowhere with that junk prop.

....a 10-8 Master Airscrew....or a 9-7, or 9-8 Zinger. (not Pro Zinger)

The 10-6 APC prop is one of the Dog Props of all time....it robs RPM, and doesn't have
enough pitch for any speed. The only worse prop than that is the Ultimate Dog Prop of
all time....the APC 12-6.

while it's not a Tigershark, my Patriot doesn't have a problem with an APC 10x6 (or a 10x7 a 10.5x6 or even the 11x6 APCs) on the YS45 w/ Jett Stream muff. granted I've only been flying RC for 17 yrs so my experience might not be up to yours but master air screw props IMO aren't worth the effort it takes to toss them in the trash, as always YMMV.

....been there, done that....I started out with a 10-6 APC prop on my F-20. I though it
was doing Ok at first. Then I checked the RPM with the tach....a miserable 14,000 revs. I put
a 9 1/2-6 MasterAirscrew on it and it tached 18,100 and picked up 15-20 mph....no contest.

The 10-6 APC was a Dog prop if I ever saw one. Now I run a 9-7 Zinger and it is a tad faster.

The best thing about the APC prop was, it kept the speed down to where I didn't have any flutter.
Since I got the plane running about a buck and a quarter, I had to eliminate the rudder, and even
re-do the nosewheel.....among other things.

I have the long pipe Rossi turning close to 20 grand in the air, on 5% ....heh heh.

The 10-6 APC is a Dog prop....great for trainers and 4Star Fourty's.

14,000 rpm with a 6 pitch prop is what....85....90 mph ???

different props perform differently on every different type airframe and what works great on sport plane X may not be the best on the same engine/fuel on trainer plane X, also ground RPM, or static thrust, is absolutely no indication of performance so saying 'Prop brand XX is a dog because it turned less RPM then brand XXX on the ground' is about as un-scientific as you can get.

the more efficient prop will always turn less RPM in a static situation because it is grabbing more air (therefore more drag on the prop). MAS props flex and flatten out (loose pitch) when brought up to RPM, a 10x6 MAS when at 12K+ RPM flattens out to less pitch, 10x5/10x4ish. APC props with higher pitch tend to stall more when held in a static situation and in flight performance (dynamic thrust) is the deciding factor and I'm very surprised that you got more speed with the same diameter/pitch MAS or even the Zingers then the APC. myself and many others haven't had the same experiences. might be an east coast v/s west coast issue I never flew when i was in Cali myself, i just can't bring myself to fly off dirt/desert (there wasn't any grass where i was at) and they didn't have any paved runways that allowed for RC flying back then. kc....your Patriot looks sweet....[sm=thumbup.gif]

Tell ya' what....fly your bird with the 10-6 APC, then swith to a Zinger 9-7. Your plane
will be 20 MPH faster with the Zinger.

Guaranteed.

trust me I've been out to the field with a couple dozen different props and even went with the same airframe with different engines to see what gave the best performance and regardless of the engine (in sizes of 90 and less) the APC props almost always gave the best performance IN THE AIR.

had to dig deep to come up with a pic of my old US40 ARF that started off with a Thunder Tiger 36 pro heli engine with a short heli pipe, best performance (by 15+ mph) was an APC 9x7, turned up to just shy of 16K and while it took a couple hundred feet of runway to get it off the ground, with gear up it was clocked with a hand held gun at 104 gear up, 97 gear down.

i got another US40 ARF (they only made the blue back in those days) to stick the then brand new designed Thunder Tiger 91 4-stroke, turned a 10x10 APC at 15K and while was considerably heavier then the TT36 version it would out run it hands down and only took a few inches of runway to get vertically airborne.

kc

EDIT: don't get me wrong, there are occasions that I've not got the best performance out of the APC and went with a different brand prop is on the larger engines that turn less RPM, my old Super Tigre 2500 and 4500 did best with the MAS and Zinger props, my 50cc gasser does best with a Bolly. I'm all about in the air performance and i always try many different size and brand props to find what works best on the engine/airframe combo I'm flying. i just finished up the Hanger 9 T-34 for a buddy with the OS 52 4 banger in it, best performance was with a 14-6 K series MAS, the APC 10x10 gave him the scale flight characteristics he liked but the K series was by far the best performance prop for that setup.
