Well, right now I have a patriot 40 that has a Jett 50 on it. It's fast and fun but I wish I built it different. So I am thinking I might strip it and try another plane.
I want another prop jet in the 40 size that has retract capability.

What do you guys suggest?

Pay attention guys, he's talking a Patriot 40 not the big old hog of a 60 that is SLOW even with a Jett 90LX, they are just to draggy for all out speed. if you can't find a Patriot 40 kit, you might wanna check out the old Direct Connect F-20 Tigershark now produced by Juno RC.

If you want real speed, forget the run of the mill propjet kits. Build a Q40 pylon racer. Install retracts and a Nelson Q40 engine and go faster than you have ever gone before.

I like the sleek Jet appearance of propjets. I really don't want to do another patriot. It was kind of heavy and I've already done it. The Tiger shark has me wondering how fast it can go. Any ideas comparied to the patriot?

they both are equally impressive in speed but both tend to build on the heavy side as you mentioned but that's not what holds back in speed. building the Patriot again (or the F-20) and taking drag into consideration you can cut down on drag and get speed up a bit more. on my last Patriot i gave the leading edges of the simulated air intakes a taper down to the fuselage (triangle stock and balsalite filler) to 'clean up' the profile, that gave a bit better speed. in prop jets you can gain allot more speed cleaning up the drag then you can increasing the power

On my Patriot I just eliminated the intakes. The plane is nice. But one thing I did wrong was get into a hurry and skipped the retracts and went with the stock gear. Instead of buying gear for the patriot and modifing it. I thought I would just build a new plane and build it right this time

He said he wanted something in the 40 size, the Coming Soon Cermark F-18 is a 60-90 is it not?? while i do love my Cermark F-16, as far as all out speed my poor little ole Patriot is faster, the F-16 has a Jett 90LX, the Patriot a YS-45 w/ Jettstream muff. as scoeroo mentioned, the Diamond Dust (now sold by Morris Hobbies) is defiantly a fast plane, I've got a Jett FIRE 60LX w/ Jett Pipe turning up a little old APC 8.8x9 pylon prop @ 21K, easy 160mph+
