Cermark F-18 - preview
Hey folks...
Thought yall might like to see this one......
Cermarks F-18
Some show-and-tell photos.
Plane should be hitting the market shortly, and expect to see it at Toledo.
Basically the same "size" as the F-16. About the same weight too.
Took a bit of time getting this ready for sale - Cermark wrote up a very nice manual, and worked out some bugs with the manufacturing plant - nothing is going out the door until it is perfect.
Enjoy
Bob

Thanks for the update Bob.
The bug still needs to have the missile rails installed..... My first mod would be to split the ailerons and make flaps, if the landings were fast. I would, of course, fly it to see how it behaves before making changes. Full flying stabs too!
Do you have access to the manual?

i think landing speed is flier dependent. I've seen allot of people post about the F-16 landing hot but mine slows to a crawl with a very high AOA on landing, those who think theirs lands hot either have it very nose heavy or they are just scared to slow that baby down. with the F-18 havening more flying area (wing area wouldn't be as accurate due to the LEX) should slow even more so. but hey Bob, if they need a test pilot to give them some flight envelope opinions, I'm up to the challenge [8D]

Agreed on landing speed. Flying the backside of the curve is a learned skill. Those that learned to fly (land) by shuttting the power off on final and diving at the earth are bound to come in hot.
I like to land nose up, not down, and with pleanty of power and airflow if at all possible

These things slow down very fast once all three wheels are on the ground. Is that front end designed for the Jett or any average .90?

I'd guess it's the standard Cermark spinner and they are aluminum, never seen one that was balanced as they tend to look like they dipped them into the paint and sat them on a stick to 'drip dry'
HappyFeet Cermark has it listed for a 60-90 and the Jett's fit the 'standard' spacing with no problems.

Its a standard 60-90 size plane - anything with decent power will fly this. Cermark chose to install the Jett 90 for the manual build, since many of the F-16 pilots prefered that engine.

Hoepfully, they will also decide to produce this in something other than the Blue Angels scheme. A plain white or grey would be nice, so that a custom paint job won't cost hours of sanding off blue....
I can think of several other schemes that I would go with.

Not to change the subject, but I have the DC F20 with Mag 52 and cuurently using an APC 10x7 with plastic spinner. I plan to try a 9x9 or 9x8 this summer, but am worried the spinner may shatter. I know the Mag ain't no JETT, but should I switch to an alum. spinner?

Depends on the spinner. You want a spinner that engages all around the backplate, not attached only with screws or tabs. The old CB spinners, some of the better Hatori spinners are built like this.
Worth the investment in at least a Cermark, MPI, Dave Brown or Tru-Turn - or contact Derek at Junorc.com - he has spinners too.
Mag 52 is a good engine - really likes to turn up - Id go with the 9x7 or 9x8 on a stock muffler. Maybe try the 9x9 if you install a jett-stream or ultra-thrust muffler.

The minimum I would do is run one with a plastic cone but aluminum back-plate. I go with Aluminum on anything remotely performance oriented... I had a plastic spinner shatter on my YS-45 powered Whiplash- right on launch... DId not hurt anyone but COULD have.
Cheers!
