Fares well, its a great flying plane. With that engine you should be able to get it up around 110 mph minimum. I would consider shortening the nose at least a 1/2" to help get it to balance. If you are using a standard beam mount, I would shorten it a full 1".

The cool thing about scat cats or similar is that you can install the cheapest pos of an engine and still get a hot plane.

Great fliers, I've had a few of them powered with VF46 rear exhaust OS engines with pipes, all had aileron flutter issues, if your using a powerfull engine stiffening the ailerons and sealing the gaps is a good idea. I used aluminum body tape on my brown Scat Cat in the pic, a couple layers made them fairly stiff and eliminated the flutters that ripped the torque rod out on one flight. A tailwheel is a good addition allso.

Thanks for the replys, good info,I shortened the fuse by 3/4" i"ll move the gear back if needed.I plan to install rudder and am using expert sl451 servos for this and the elevator, these are mini(not micro)with plastic gears w/[email protected] do you think these would be sufficient. Also, how do you guys think the irvine 40 compares to a webra 40 speed, or an irvine Q40.

SL 451 will be fine with the sport motor. If you were going with a Jett or a Nelson, I would recommend something a little beefier.

dave,
Is there something in the size of the 451 that would work if I decide to go with a jett,or should I just go with regular size bb servos?
I was planning on using a header and pipe with the irvine still probably only 16k with a 9x6,my dad has a js 50 sitting on the shelf, I might be able to get my hands onHow does this plane compare to modern Q500 planes in terms of being competitive?
Thanks
Donnie

If it was a V-tail, the 451's would be fine. With a conventional tail, I'd go with something stronger on Elevator and aileron (rudder and throttle would be fine), like the JR 3121, JR 3421, or Futaba 9650 (My newest favorite).

It doesn't compare if you are putting it against the lastest shoulder wing compositess, but for sport flying it will be the fastest thing you've ever had your hands on, and it will be a great flyer for you.

Thanks alot for the info Dave, what do you think of the wing tips, should I nix them?I noticed that you had a plug for klasskote on your sig,are you affiliated with them?Dad just bought everything to paint an old orline liberty stik, this is supposed to be the same as the old K&B epoxy paint.I have an old top flite p-47 that I intend to glass when I build it,was thinking of using klasskote for this as well.
