Default 239mph from a magnum in a dive!!!!

Or that's the claim at least LOL. I've had a couple magnum's, and while they're fast, I find this one a little hard to swallow.........

I have the same aircraft and yes, it is very fast. I've got a Wesson .51 with a tuned pipe for power and we clocked it at 239 MPH in a dive. I run a 9 X 6 prop and an 8 X 8 for maximum MPH. I love mine!

Ah, but that is a Wesson .51 powering that Magnum. Smells like french fries when it goes past.

I can see it now......

laying flat on my back, in the middle of the flying field, pointing a radar gun upward at a 4 pound plane which is diving straight at me as it tries to accelerate beyond 200 mph.

ummmmmm.... nope. I won't be doing that

I guess that is why man invented air-data systems

Crazy, sorry if I don't belive your speed either. Best I've seen by the two here are 161 level after a dive on 8X9 and 8X10 APCs... 8X8 is slower...

What kind of r.p.m. are those Weston .50's turning an APC 8X8 and 8X9?

The Westons are in the 21000 range with an 8x8.

Now, the WESSON is a completely different animal. It easily runs in the high 30's... apparently...

Those Magnum wings must be real strong, usually you have to pull out of the dive sooner or later.

LOL

A ordinary meduim sized car wing mirror drag profile requires ~ 5 bhp at 100mph to drag it through the air

at 200mph it needs ~ 20bhp speed doubled cubic drag factor
at 240mph it need ~ 30bhp

even alowing a drag profile for the plane with motor and exhast jutting out of 1/4 a wing mirror it needs some ~7bhp to do that speed

a 50 motor is topps ~2 bhp so we are missing the 5 bhp somewhere

the basic form of the plane in vertical dive will mean top speed engine off dive after 15 seconds terminal dive of some ~180mph tops

The propeller spinning at some 25k will be tops something like ~170mph at 100% effency or ~140mph at 70% effency

dosnt compute TERMINATE TERMINATE

AGHHHHH it KPH setting on the RADAR GUN or smoking something like magnum fumes and 60 mph foloing tail wind

eat my balsa dust

It has been said that the Wessons are like (greased lightning), but it's easy to cook one.

239 mph ??? seems kind of slow to me.
I think my Wesson Magnum is a bit faster than that and it is only a 44 , not the bigger 51 this guy is using.

But they sure do dive for cover then it does a low pass over the pits !!!

Heck, that's nothin'. Weston claimed their factory team aircraft hit over 240 on the 8-10. [:-]

Break out your wellies folks, it's getting deep. Just leave my sheep alone.

Imagine that Hitec 81 MG on Ailerons and Elevator at 239 mph. I can't believe they made it through 1 flight at its actual speed, let alone 239!

If I cannot touch the sheep then there is no point in putting on the wellies! Darn, I just got hold of a nice black garter belt too.
